I was surprised to see there were PARROTS outside one of the restaurants in town when we went grocery shopping today. They were at a table set up to promote an animal rescue that included all kinds of birds, and we got to pet and hold them while they explained to us what they do. They were partnered with the restaurant tonight, and 20% of every bill went to the rescue, so we decided we would grab some dinner before we went grocery shopping. I love when life throws me these fun little diversions. ❤️

The husband is coming home from his small trip to the Midwest today! I've missed him so much! ❤️

I think this whole Reckless Ben Vs. BAM situation resonates with so many people because it sets on FULL display the values of our capital-centered justice system. At its core, it's an outgrowth of the colonial attitude that spawned it, an attitude at the core of Western patriarchal society that gives white Christian moneyed men the impression that they are entitled to ownership of all the wealth and resources around them. They've convinced themselves that the people to which those resources really belong don't deserve them, or don't use them properly, or are too irresponsible with them that it's perfectly okay to seize them for their own use. And when the rightful owners or original users demand them back per contract or LAW, they make excuses or threats to maintain control, because they've tied their brains in knots with all kinds of justifications as to why they should keep hold of the stuff they stole. We've seen it happen with land, water, money, housing, our own bodies, and now with fucking LEGO. There is nothing too small, too insignificant for the Colonial project to take from you. They will literally steal candy from a baby, then turn around and try to claim that the baby is wrong for having it in the first place. Even the white people who enjoyed the protection of the white-oriented western colonialism are starting to wake up to the fact that their skin color will not protect them if a rich white man wants what they have. We're all noticing the ugly writing on the wall now, and getting so close to class consciousness we can touch it. All that's needed now is for those folks that still see themselves as fundamentally different from those marginalized people around them to see the parallel between the blatant theft of a valuable LEGO collection and the blatant theft of land from indigenous societies to finally make the thing CLICK. #LEGO #RecklessBen #bricksAndMinifigs

Pagan Meet-up was SUPER fun today! There weren't a lot of people there today, but we had some GREAT conversations about our practices, our spiritual beliefs, our plans for upcoming holidays, etc.

I was today years old when I learned that the Nickelodeon Studios in Florida closed on my birthday about 5 years after I visited with my family in 2000. At the time of that visit, I was particularly interested in the time capsule that they had buried in 1992, because that was supposed to be OPENED on my birthday too, in 2042. Apparently that time capsule has been relocated to the animation studio in LA. At least I wouldn't have to go to Florida again to see it opened now! 😅

Ten years ago, I made my first post on my Manga Snark blog! Kinda wild that I kept the thing going for a whole decade, but I guess it's one of those things that I couldn't let go all these turbulent years.

We bought a blanket at this year's Coupeville Water Festival, and it was SO PRETTY I had to hang it as a tapestry/curtain over the odd window between my office and the living room.
