We were in court today to defend wolves against an anti-wolf coalition's attempt to force the state of MT to increase its wolf-killing quota. The coalition includes 2 sitting state legislators who attempted & failed on several occasions to get legislation passed that would result in even more dead wolves. WWP, Trap Free Montana, Wolf & Wildlife Advocates and the Alliance for the Wild Rockies were asking for a dismissal of the suit. The court is considering the arguments & we'll keep you posted.
For the first time in decades, a radio-collared wolf last week relocated from the United States into Mexico. U.S. Customs and Border Protection has begun extending the wall where 'Cedar' crossed, which would block wildlife in the future. https://westernwatersheds.org/2026/04/endangered-mexican-wolf-crosses-from-new-mexico-into-chihuahua/
Over the past 50 years, the population of birds as a whole across North America has dropped by nearly three billion birds, according to an estimate through 2019 research by Rosenberg et. al. This means that just over one in four birds in 1970 is no longer present across the landscape today.
Federal and state agencies should allow all wolves to move about at will. That would increase the chances of intergradation and rescuing the Mexican gray wolf from depleted genes, fewer pups and ultimately extinction.
