Werde heute Abend meine eigene Mastodon-Instanz aufmachen; sie wird durch einen Hosting-Dienst betrieben, d.h., ich muss mich nicht selbst um die Hardware und Verbindung kümmern. Kostet etwas Geld, aber mein Vorteil wird sein, dass ich so viel schreiben kann, wie ich will, und auch auf Schwedisch (was ich auf det.social eigentlich nicht darf, was mir aber durchaus einige Male passiert ist, sorry... ).
Meine Güte... wenn man findet, dass das zusätzliche "Innen" einen Text unnötig verlängert, dann kann man es natürlich auch so formulieren: "Der/die Verstorbene wird im Text als Erblasser bezeichnet. Bezeichnungen sind geschlechtsneutral
zu verstehen." 🤣

Also, I'm talking about my own personal instance (not the one I'm typing on right now); I have full control over what to block and I can read my kids' DM's at any time. I'm far more scared of what my 13 year old is up to on Discord, than I'm scared of letting my soon 11 year old out on Mastodon.
But like I said, I don't have all the answers and it's not easy, so I absolutely also give you your point. =)

I'm leaving them open to every weirdo as soon as they leave the apartment. It's not easy and I don't claim to have all the answers, but as long as I have a good relationship with my kid, I have a rough idea and influence who they are engaging with. Other platforms do a lot of weird things to my kids too, and they are already there, it's unstoppable. We try, but for one: we fail, and two: how could one deprive a kid of what is a huge part of our culture's social life?
Does anyone know of any profiles that are great for kids to follow? (Even from age 10)
My guess is that my daughter won't be long on mastodon, because I can't find much content that'd interest her at all.
The current debate about age restriction for social media makes this question a bit awkward, but my personal opinion is that a ban of social media under certain ages is neither possible nor plausible.
