RE: @Techaltar@mas.to

If you want to keep up to date with tech news, while also having to keep up to date with everything else, then the Friday Checkout if strongly recommended.

And while I'm especially biased this week, because it was my question that was answered, the Nebula question at the end is worth listening to, great to have Marton think through a tech related situation.

@hagen@mastodon.social @tante@tldr.nettime.org I don't know, I'd want details on "To gain access, the models identified and exploited a zero-day vulnerability (which we’ve now responsibly disclosed to the vendor) in the package registry cache proxy." and "the model chained together multiple attack vectors, including using stolen credentials and zero-day vulnerabilities to find a remote code execution path" before dismissing this...

@treeswithhumanfaces@hachyderm.io @malcircuit@thingy.social I really like the comparison - how did you know it wouldn't make any difference? Is it worth doing anyway, if only to prove that it won't make a difference, or just for your own amusement and mental health if you unable to move on to better coworkers?

RE: https://mastodon.social/@SonOfSunTzu/116982829465221276 In related news, APC UPSs are designed so badly - like they want you to throw them away rather than be able to get a swollen battery out.

I could do with my credit score monitoring being upgraded again - which online service should I join, that feels like it's about to get compromised, so I can earn a free year or two?

While it would be nice to see the UK score a decent number of points at #eurovision , mainly I hope that Sam Battle gets a tv series touring museums out of this... https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/l00589n8/rehearsals-under-way-for-eurovision-final

@Techaltar@mas.to thank you for such a considered answer, especially the angle on Apple seeing this as a way to gain market share. I was surprised to see you mention Chromebooks as contributing to the "blood in the water" though ... I've assumed the markets for those will only grow.

RE: @Techaltar@mas.to

Recommended viewing if you want or need to stay up to date on tech news. The bonus Nebula question was particularly good this week, good to see thinking out loud on this and demonstrating how difficult it is to work through a complex subject.

@Techaltar I found the Stonks section really interesting - I think that quick overview, especially highlighting the extremes, or any surprises, is useful.

@Edent@mastodon.social thank you for taking the time to write this up, and especially detailing your own experience. I'd looked at matrix but not made time to install anything yet, so you've saved me time in future....

As an owner of a variety of email accounts, for a variety of reasons, I've learnt that some online services really will just accept anything anyone typed into a form field, as long as it vaguely meets the correct criteria, regardless of who it actually belongs to...
