Oluba Ronald didn’t plan for film at first. Life had other plans, and even at home, it wasn’t the obvious choice for him. But he showed up anyway, balancing training, home responsibilities, and long walks to the training but slowly found his place in it.
Sisi Film Collective
We are a Uganda-based film collective telling original stories through film. We make short films, feature films, documentaries, Series, poetic visuals and creative collaborations.
Follow us for regular stories about filmmakers and other kinds of storytellers in this part of the world.

The instance hosting our other account @sisi went dark a couple of weeks ago with no word from the admin.
Growing up in Gulu City, Okullu never thought the games he played in the refugee camp would one day lead him to filmmaking. He used to make toy cars and a ‘box TV’ from papyrus and paper. Today, he’s a DOP and a mentor at Sisi Film Lab. It’s crazy how childhood creativity can prepare us for who we become.
"I, however, liked acting, and I have a few friends who introduced me to the film spaces in Gulu. But acting opportunities were few, and the payments were not really there. I was a little broke and needed to earn money."

Our latest movie night gave us some interesting reactions. We watched two very different films, and clearly, Sister Midnight left some people questioning their life choices. Some loved the films, some needed a little explanation, and others said they would have never watched them on their own but were glad they did.
It’s #FollowFriday ! We’re looking to discover and connect with more accounts from the arts community, film production companies, arts organisations, creative collectives, and other people or groups doing interesting work.
If you know any accounts we should check out, recommend them below or tag them so we can find them.
For those who don’t know us, we’re a film collective based in Uganda, made up of Ugandan filmmakers working across different areas of film.

Today is our movie night, and this time we’re watching It Was Just an Accident and Sister Midnight. Last month, some of the audience didn’t quite understand The Night of Counting the Years, but that ended up leading to some really beautiful conversations about the film and the different ways people interpreted it.
So now we are curious to see the kind of conversations we’ll have around today.
This year, we’re taking Sisi Film Lab to Moroto, a district that has had limited opportunities for film training and filmmaking. We want to take the training beyond the usual places and create more opportunities for people in different parts of Uganda to learn filmmaking, tell their own stories and develop their skills.
While our Kampala Sisi Film Lab training starts next week, preparations are also underway in the other districts. Soon, the different training teams will be getting started too.

"I don’t know yet what messages I want to say in my films, but I have stories and I think the community should listen to stories of school girls who get pregnant."

"I became a teacher as life sometimes takes unexpected turns, but I almost lost this job because of trying to nurture my fetish, watching movies with Top Class infants. Thinking about it right now – I think I was possessed."

"I’ve always wanted to be a filmmaker, because I’m passionate about ending gender-based violence. I know, it’s a broad ambition, and a little vague, but the film industry is dominated by males, and women suffer a lot of humiliation and harassment to get to go the top, "

We’re starting our 2026 Film Lab training in a month. We’re getting ready to welcome a new group of filmmakers and begin another eight months of learning, creating and making films together.
We’re excited to see what this new group will create.
Greetings from Kampala! Our instance went dark, and no communication from the admin for a couple of weeks, so we are reviving this old account and make a new #introduction
We are a #collective of #filmmakers and #storytellers based in Uganda, and our primary purpose is to help kickstart the careers of artists in this region. We do this through training, production, and socializing/networking.
At Sisi, we believe in collaboration and nurturing voices that might otherwise go unheard. Together, we create short films, poetic visuals, feature films and collaborative art projects.
We’re here to share our stories, #connect with other creatives, and discover your stories too. Let’s connect and keep the stories flowing. We will post using #SisiStories and would like to engage with other #artist #artists #photographer #writers #writer #poet
"My dream is to own a gallery with my photographs all over the walls, with pictures of people, places, and sunsets or whatever caught my eye. I dreamed that people would come from far and wide to see my photographs because they’d seen raving reviews online."

For a while, Sisi Film Lab has mainly been running film trainings, covering different areas of filmmaking. Now we’re expanding our training to acting as well.
We’re starting acting workshops for aspiring and emerging actors to learn, practise and develop their acting skills for film and television. We’re excited to create more spaces for people who want to learn and grow in acting.
“Goodness this role!” Monica begins. “I really struggled with changing personality. I had to play a vulnerable character yet in real life I hate showing people my weak side. I would rather pretend to be strong and yet here I was supposed to undergo manipulation, betrayal by those I love the most and stand it.”
