Marvelous Marvin
#MarvinGaye #letsgetiton #soul #r&B #70smusic #music #musicsky #musiciansky Marvin Gaye releases his landmark soul album on August 28, 1973. The sexiest of Marvelous Marvin's work is also his most spiritual. As found in the liner notes on the album: "I can't see anything wrong with sex between consenting anybodies. I think we make far too much of it. After all, one's genitals are just one important part of th#e magnificent human body ...

It's significant because radio DJ's caused such a ruckus, Motown founder Barry Gordy had to eat a little crow. Gordy didn't much care for Marvin's version of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" -- which had already been recorded by Gladys Knight and The Pips.
Dolly
#dollyparton #country #classiccountry #countrymusichalloffame #rockandrollhalloffame #music #musicsky #musiciansky This one hurts because everyone loved Dolly. It almost didn’t matter what: class, gender, region, musical genre, partisanship. She transcended boundaries in all of them. During an era when politicians act like pop stars, pop stars are expected to engage in politics, and politics divide fiercely, Parton was perhaps the only person in the United States…
The Hag
Merle Haggard. b. April 6, 1937. One of the cornerstones of country music and one of the primary architects of the "Bakersfield Sound." His music was a raw, stripped-down alternative to the polish of the "Nashville Sound" of the '60's. His music was uniquely authentic because he lived much of what he sang about. In and out of reform schools when young to serving time in San Quentin Prison for a botched burglary.
Has anybody seen the bridge?
March 28, 1973 ~ Led Zeppelin release Houses Of The Holy ... a classic. Lyrically, the title refers to the arenas and auditoriums where the band performed, which they viewed as "holy" places for their fans. That's about right. Q: Are We Not Men?
#Devo #arewenotmen #70smusic #altrock #70srock #rock #rockmusic #music #musicsky #musiciansky Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! The line and the band's name are based on a satirical and pessimistic theory of human society called "de-evolution". The band's concept of "de-evolution" posits that, contrary to the idea of human progress, mankind is actually regressing. Based on the last few years, I'd say they knew what the hell they were talking about.

It's one of the Mount Rushmore albums of the alternative rock era, bridging the gap between the 70's arena rock riffage and the introspective angst of 90's grunge.
