@joethephish@mastodon.gamedev.place I have used a similar camera for taking pictures of space (from the surface of earth). You often see defective pixels that show up bright or “hot” on a mostly black background. They are always there but not noticeable in regular photography. It could also be cosmic ray strikes on the camera chip.

@_thegeoff@mastodon.social the big problem is that the signals received by the DSN are weak. The DSN radio telescopes are like 18 meters in diameter. They’re huge so the can pick up these weak signals among all the background EM noise from space.

@michaelharley@infosec.exchange I’ve read all the books in that series and I feel the second one is the weakest. So if you don’t like the second one keep going. They are great!

@_thegeoff@mastodon.social the DSN is a set of radio telescopes on the surface of the earth. There are no DSN relays in space. So, when they are behind the moon no radio signals can be received by DSN.

@Matthew2468@dragonscave.space Congratulations!

@artbysarahsammis@socialbc.ca ok now I have some details. Hopefully I don’t look like a bot

@artbysarahsammis@socialbc.ca I guess that does look odd. I should add an avatar or some sort of image. I moved to my current mastodon server just in the last few weeks and haven’t done much with this account yet.
