@PNS I remember those days. Mom stayed home until the malaise era inflation. But when my sister and I started school she started selling Tupperware, helped out with the elementary school, the church, and of course kept the house in good order. And she made some of our clothes. But after the oil shocks and Whip Inflation Now she had to take on a more formal job.
By the time of the Enjoli woman it was expected. Madison Ave put a positive spin on it but everyone knew.

@quercus@poa.st @Humpleupagus@eveningzoo.club @cjd@pkteerium.xyz There's gas all over western PA and upstate New York (but NY won't touch it because fracking is "dangerous"), Colorado, WY, Utah... Then there's the gulf coast, California, western Canada. Heck, most of France and Western Europe has some gas in the ground, there's just no political motivation to get it.

But then you're limited to traveling 1/2 the distance you can charge.
FWIW, there are ranches in my county that have gas wells on the property. Most of them get a gas line right off the wellhead for free as part of the deal (they also get about $5K/month if they own the minerals). It's possible to get gas in much of the world, just comes down to how hard you want to work for it.

@cjd@pkteerium.xyz "But there's something about them that EVs can never really replace,"
The energy density and easy transfer of gasoline?

@arcanicanis@were.social The extremists on both ends keep telling us that we want to lock them up in camps, or exterminate them, or whatever. The more they say it, the more I think they actually want to be martyred for whatever their cause is. Perhaps to get your name in history books some odd sort of immortality achievement.
Its a shame most of them are already forgotten.

I remember thinking that one way they could "fix" social security would be to inflate the currency so much that the guaranteed payout would be enough to buy a few loaves of bread or maybe fill up the tank once a month.
Technically they're keeping up their end of the bargain, so what's the problem?
