RIP Pansy, 2006 (?) - 2026.
She was always shy, she was often paranoid, she was sometimes ridiculous, and no matter how scared she was whenever we moved to a new home, she always considered it her duty to patrol for monsters all night for the first few weeks so I could safely sleep. (Daytime monsters were my responsibility.)
She was with me for almost 20 years and through 2 different countries, but sadly an ultrasound this month confirmed she had growing tumours in her bladder and pancreas and there was nothing that could be done to help.
Hug your fur babies today on Pansy’s behalf - they’re never with us long enough, and it always ends so suddenly. 💔

Sadly it is not good news for Pansy, the ultrasound yesterday revealed she has two tumours (bladder and pancreas) and there is nothing that can be safely done about them given her age and other health issues, so it's just a matter of trying to keep her comfortable until it's time to put her to sleep, which will likely be soon.😭 She's had a loved and spoiled life for almost 20 years with me, but it's never long enough. 💔
Anyone posting that stupid rainbow bridge poem will probably be blocked.

Good morning, from the owner of a cat who has discovered at 4:45am that her food bowl is empty. 🥱 #CatsOfMastodon

#EQLegends launches in 4 hours but I'm not sure if I'll get to play today ... trying to embrace the authentic launch day experience of playing via modem from Australia in 2000 😅

Can confirm this was just a *fabulous* time for our air conditioner to be fried thanks to the lightning storm on Tuesday.
Huge props to Jeff from JDK Furnace & Heating who spent over 3 hours he didn’t have to spare in the afternoon finding a solution so we were able to start cooling down and get some sleep last night. It was 32.5C in my office (which Pansy, my 20+ year old blind cat refuses to leave) and I had been giving her ice water and wiping her down with cool water regularly all day but I was still pretty worried about her. She is MUCH happier today.

July 17th's High of 30.7°C was our warmest day of the year, and our 3rd 30°C High of 2026. #yegwx #yeg
30.7°C was our 11th warmest July 17th, and the Low of 17.8°C tied 1987 for 4th warmest.
2024 has both those records at 34°C & 19.1°C.

So many of my former coworkers - most already forced onto projects they didn’t choose and forced to spend time commuting through traffic to a half empty office where all they do is sit on Zoom calls to other remote offices - are now anxiously waiting to hear if they are going to be out of a job entirely. 😥 Nobody deserves to be treated as a number in an acquisition spreadsheet. 😢

Gotta say I have never seen so many people what I can only describe as AGGRESSIVELY dressing in Canadian red and white colours and flags on Canada Day this year. Like, 80-90% of people I saw downtown yesterday. Even a few walking around wearing flags as capes. I asked my dad if it was always like this and he said no, it’s just since Trump.

Feeling extremely pleased with myself that I managed to get a level 1 froglok all the way from the depths of the Rathe Mountains to Ak'Anon without dying a single time. 💪 #EQLegends #flex
Enjoying this beta and sad to see it ending - but I wrote a little blog about it when I started! https://tradeskill.blogspot.com/2026/07/everquest-legends.html

@senanthic@mstdn.ca If by any chance you are at all familiar with any of Jane Austen’s work, I can recommend a nice cozy mystery set in her literary world where one of the protagonists is Darcy’s son, and is coded as autistic. The EPL has it also. https://www.claudiagray.com/books/mr-darcy-and-miss-tilney-mystery/

Haven't had much time to play due to traveling, but I've got my Iksar necromancer/druid to level 7 so far in #EverQuestLegends. Kind of amazing how much knowledge is coming back after so many years. Highly pleased I remembered how to pet pull so I didn't get Dorn B'Dynn coming after me here! 😁 Also remembering how fear kiting works (necro/druid combo is clearly strong here)... also remembering that Iksar get an XP penalty and are KOS everywhere, which in retrospect was maybe starting me off in slight challenge mode ... 😅

Visiting the parents this week and realizing this is the first time I’ve visited Ontario in high summer for probably decades. I have lived in Australia, Brazil, and California but Ontario summers remain the worst. Very much do NOT miss this 99% humidity. 🫠
