...the 2025 Building Code has Edmonton's 15min rain event as 29mm. Drainage systems are currently designed for that, although I don't know how that has changed over time. ...the August 1st & 2nd rains push 2026's total up to 681.2mm. That's still Blatchford's 3rd biggest year on record. ...for 2026 so far we're at 634.8mm, which is Blatchford's 5th most on record. We're 5~15mm away from the 4th & 3rd spots. And we're 90mm away from the record. ...for the rest of the year we average another 165mm. The typical range is 135-195mm, with the extremes from 85-270mm. Blatchford's record was 724.8mm in 1900, and we're at 602mm. So we need 122mm. Charts aren't updated yet, but Blatchford got another 40mm storm last night. #yegwx #yeg That will be our 4th of the year (3 was already a record). July's total is now 139mm. ...the gap this year between Blatchford and the other stations is around 200mm, which is huge. Normally the stations are pretty close, although we've had a few 100-150mm gaps in the past. ...we have not had many months cross the 150mm mark. There have been 25 at Blatchford, going back to 1880. And we've never had 2 150mm months in-a-row...until June & July 2026.
