I love how video games used to have such high quality art on their cover and then when you got into the game it's just pixelly shit.
Realizing Celeste and Getting Over It both have climbing up a mountain and reaching the summit as their gameplay theme.
They approach it in very different ways for very different reasons, but the setting similarity is interesting.
Plot twists suck when they come out of nowhere.
They work best when hinted at first, because the audience is given a chance to work out the gist of it. Even if they don't, when it's revealed, there's that moment of "ohhh, that makes so much sense!"
If it's barely connected or not at all, the audience tends to not say "oh shit" but rather "where the fuck did that come from?" or "why would they do that?"
The mere existence of a twist isn't good enough. You have to lead the audience to believe one thing and the twist comes from a reinterpretation of the same information. Usually whatever new information is revealed to make the twist clear, isn't new but just clarifies something the audience already knew (or at the very least is something they can believe would happen, like "oh yeah that's totally something they'd do").
I think we need to better understand what we want from the average computer user when we say we want to teach them computer literacy. Because that informs how much we teach them for it to be considered as such.
The iPhone was important in abstracting much of the nitty gritty of computing into something the average person could understand how to use.
The average fedizen and computer nerds in general know a lot more about computer management. Abstractions can sometimes be annoying because they know what kind of control is possible and don't enjoy losing that. Everyone else, well, you can't miss what you never knew.
There is an argument to be had regarding the crowd that calls IT for basic issues that could be fixed by them taking a five minute lesson, or getting frustrated because they underestimate the effort it takes to do something.

@lain@lain.com This is how some people think, though.
how is this sanitary? It's not, but you can easily fix that. Just like you do with your hands. You might not even need soap. Also, your immune system will survive the touch of a few strangers in your food.
I'm less sure about the bread, though. I don't eat all that much.
