I took my initial novice and technician class license tests on this day 33 years ago. Had to wait ten weeks and two days for my license to come in the mail. Things sure are different these days.
I'm a blind (going deaf) amateur radio operator in New York City, licensed since 1993, primarily found on VHF/UHF and Allstarlink.
I'm an audio engineer by trade, which is really fun when going deaf, and enjoy playing with VoIP, Raspberry Pi projects, etc. Also pretend to be a musician sometimes.
I only post amateur radio stuff here.

I have set up an Allstarlink node (506316) which plays Amateur Radio Newsline on demand, and is not a conference. This means any number of nodes can be connected simultaneously, and not hear each other, and each will get their own isolated stream from start to finish.
Each episode is broken up into logical segments, rather than fixed lengths, like the ASL3 script does it.
If you have a repeater or network that wants to play ARNewsline, give it a shot. Just dial node 506316.
I have this idea to integrate RNNoise with my Allstarlink node, such that you never hear background hiss and noise floor from my radios. I think I've figured out a pipeline to make this work using Analog_Processor from DVSwitch, and either SoX with RNNoise running as a ladspa effect, or ffmpeg running the model directly, which ever is the least latent. PRoblem is that if I do this, DTMF will also get knocked out.
So now I'm wondering what it would take to add DTMF to the existing training data.
According to the OpenWebRX directory, Asia is apparently a country, and it only has one radio. Yes, that's right, there is only one radio in the country of Asia. How cool!
I sleep with a Motorola HMN 1090C hand microphone next to me. It's so satisfying to hold, even though I have no radio to connect it to.
I'm calling the All-nodes Net again at the top of the hour, 9:00 PM EDT, 6:00 PM PDT, 01:00 UTC.
If you are at all interested in nodes (Allstarlink, Echolink, MMDVM, etc) then this is the net for you.
Connect through Allstarlink with nodes 503680 (U.S. West), 503681 (U.S. Central) or U.S. East (503682), TGIF talkgroup 6633, or D-STAR XLX679C.
I've been experimenting with different hand mics with the Allscan.info UCI120 and UCI200 interfaces for Allstarlink, including an old Kenwood MC-48B, which I liked for a long time, a Kenwood MC-18, a Kymate KMC-36 made for Kenwood mobile radios, two Motorola HMN 1056C's, and a Motorola AARMN-something-or-other. Out of all those, my favorite in terms of frequency response and SNR is the KMC-36, which is the one I was expecting to suck the most. Go figure.
The AARMN has the most highs/least lows.
Progress bar, 100 percent. About 3 hours and 23 minutes remaining.
Does anyone happen to know if someone makes a Motorola 10-pin APX/XTL microphone to Motorola-style RJ45 connector? I have an HMN 1090C with one of these connectors that I want to use with a radioless Allstarlink node that accepts Motorola RJ45 type microphones, like the HMN 1056C, and I can't solder a new connector on myself.
For that matter, would these even be electrically compatible?
This microphone is old enough that it doesn't use an actuator switch for PTT.
