I started day 2 of #GenCon2023 playing #MorkBorg with a kid that was experiencing his first ever #RPG , and his enthusiasm was contagious. It really had this old grognard seeing things through fresh eyes. I even got to see “the moment” where he shifted from “what can I do” to “I can try ANYthing?” The simple act of throwing his grappling hook up to the loft of the barn became a moment for celebration for the table. You want to throw chalk at a giant toad? Why not? Go for it little dude! #GenCon

#GenCon2023 Day 3 started with a game of Stealing Stories for the Devil by Monte Cook Games. What an interesting game! Remember Rumor from Umbrella Academy? You play as someone with similar powers where your lie becomes true. In our game, our mission was the heist of The Great Die of Improbability; a 31 sided die. This McGuffin served as the cenrral focus, and off we went. The boxed set looks awesome and the session I played was certainly memorable. #GenCon
Played an evening #GenCon #GenCon2023 session of “Bulldogs!”, a FATE #rpg. GM did a great job explaining the nuance of the system. Those pithy one-liners that are inevitably uttered at the table become mechanically and narritively interesting. The randos we played with were a true joy. One proactive participant recorded the audio of the session (with consent from everyone, including the GM) and we traded contact info to download it later. I’m glad he did, as it was the highlight of the day.

Not all LitRPG clicks for me but this “Will of the Immortals” series by Jay Krauss is very good. Book 1 is “Steel Foundations” and I’m loving it. If this happens to get a conversation about good LitRPG recommendations…then so be it!
@NerdBurgerCraig@dice.camp Really looking forward to this release, Craig! Best of luck on your Kickstarter. Another exciting product in the Capers lineup!
@NerdBurgerCraig@dice.camp I hope your GenCon was fun and fruitful. I picked up the Capers Noir book this year and I’m looking forward to incorporating it into my game. Thanks for all you do!
I wrapped up my #GenCon with a visit to the play-test hall where we played a well designed board game in an unfinished state with the designer as the facilitator. It was called Boarding Party by Ty from Sentient Games. It was an awesome game of resource collection with programmed movement. While I lost (but not too embarrassingly badly) it was quite fun and I’ll be checking out the crowd funding when it launches next year. I encourage you to do the same! https://sentient-games.com/ #GenCon2023

12 years ago today, Netflix announced the split between rentals and streaming, and created the Great Qwikster Debacle of 2011. Ahh, memories.
