In my classroom I see the results of our society teaching this cr*p to young women well beyond the readership of this magazine, reversing gains of the last 50 years seemingly overnight. "Drivel" is a good word for it, but dismissive--which I think we can no longer afford. "Dangerous propaganda" may be more accurate.
Inveterate Docsplainer
@PshrinkEmeritus as was. #Retired #Clinical #Psychologist and proudly non-renewed #Adjunct #Professor of #Psychology living and working on stolen Mvskogee/Cherokee/Yuchi land.
Sweary, "unprofessional" behavior a specialty.
Neurospicy, cis, asexual old fart still finding joy sharing #Psychology as The Docsplainer over at https://docwood.wordpress.com where #Disability, sobriety, #Feminism, #Buddhism, and #SocialJustice inform my #Writing
So I'm grading the last assignment of the term and still flagging kids for cheating.
Sigh.
I so do not have time for this.

Celebrating the 9th anniversary of the day Twisty Faster followed me back on Twitter, memorialized in my journal entry for that date.
"You could have knocked me over with a feather," I wrote.
I would have been absolutely mortified if my mother had written one of my professors during exam week to ask that they assess me differently than they did the entire rest of the class all semester but here we are. It's that time of year! Two pages, single spaced, and on the weekend no less.
Switching from teaching to writing, have discovered Thursdays' 10AM Eastern time Writing Hour on Medium. You just write: You can close the chat to avoid distraction, there's music (what I call "air pudding"), no talking, no video.
Sometimes I actually write there, sometimes (like this morning) I just organize the shit out of a writing project.
If you think you'd like to try it, you can register your interest at

Email reminders with links go out Thursday mornings.
RE: @allscientifical@mastodon.social
Animals present stresses of their own and have needs that far exceed ours. If you don't want to prioritize the care of another sentient being that will be utterly dependent upon you to survive, long after it stops being young and cute, please do not 'get' an animal. They are not here to make us feel better.
Erikson says at times like this (death of a spouse, 12 years ago, or retirement in a couple of weeks), your own personal mortality is front and center. And whether you realize it or not, you're doing some evaluating. Good life? Satisfied? Or do ya have a bunch of regrets? Would you like to go back in time, maybe even to your childhood, and stay there?
Primaries are in progress or are about to begin all over this country. Will you please get your ass in gear and go vote? Our future depends on it!
