Stay tuned old cooperator friends... Cool things about to happen... Will tell more soon but now can only give three words: Food Tasting Club.

mastodon 4.5.18A #platformcoop enthusiast. Never hesitate to approach me about any cooperative project.
Platform coops shouldn't just build alternatives to successful tech firms, but also identify failed tech firms that could have succeeded as #coops.
Any ideas of tech firms that failed, for example, due to conflicts of interest between owners and users that could have been resolved with user ownership?
My hunch is that there could be something with coupon sites and other referral commission based firms. Lot of conflicts of interest there that could be resolved with a different ownership model.
Businesses should set up a coop/mutual that helps them split their money across many banks.
If one goes bust, they don't lose all their money.
If they split the money into $250k chunks, they will never lose a penny as FDIC guarantees $250k.
Would also help tackle bank concentration!
A small 12 member worker #coop provides best elderly home care in Finland.
This is according to a massive survey of service user satisfaction spanning 2800 providers with 42,000 respondents.

For better or worse, I think Mastodon instances will start making money from ads.
But it will probably be through instances having their own email newsletters where they sell promotions, not via ads in Mastodon itself.
That has it's own problems, but is generally magnitudes *more* privacy respecting than creepy big brother stuff big social media does.
Hopefully the email newsletters will be run by Mastodon instances that themselves are run as user-owned #coops like our instance, Social Coop.
In his popular podcast and Vox article, Ezra Klein claims that small banks are more powerful than big banks when it comes to lobbying.
But at least two studies (latter from 2022) found the exact opposite: the larger the bank, the more it lobbies.
Kleins claim has been repeated by many other popular writers, leaders of think tanks, etc.
Regulatory capture by big banks is also apparent in the fact that small banks face higher proportionate regulatory burden.
