Why is #GrapheneOS gps not working in Holland/Nederlande.. It worked in dk, and on the plane.. But no fix in osmand on ground :(

Read this thread.. its well worth the read to understand the source of "chat control" proposal.
Too many good talks at fosdem as always and the best often have room filled.. Thank god for the fantastic live streaming - often end up streaming a few talks from the cantina :) - and they even have live chat per talk now.. shout out to #FOSDEM for always improving and being great

@aurynn @Veticia @rbairwell @rastilin @xssfox go look at hetzner.com - much cheaper - incl. The vms (where they stay up/ get restarted on new machine) just like ec2 etc. On other clouds. We run all our Companys services on physical servers on hetzner, with HA provided by Kubernetes setup. And scaleup works well enough with vm combo

2/2 The libs not offered by distro, you need to manage yourself (have enough own that contribute and support upstreams). We prefer using ubunto as base for all docker images too, for same reason. If you then want guarantees, buy Ubuntu licenses, and other ways to ensure whats not part of Ubuntu, and Ubuntu should takr care of most

@Di4na i know several devs, who work for either redhat or Ubunto and do kernel and lib work.
Upstream projects using a lib (and who are visible enough to attract funding or day jobbers, will have to work on libs they need, if none exist.

Why do you think redhat allowed poettering to rewrite init stack. Same need. Smaller orgs contribute (if they are good), larger ones have maintainers (they can afford it better, and it does give them more control)

You believe your data is less protected at Hetzner in germany, than with american clouds? or what are you saying?

But do an equivalent to hetzner not exist in your country? One that offers managed servers/VMs and has multiple datacenters in your country - which is OWNED by a company in YOUR country - so your data actually is protected by your countries laws? (and you'd save a big bundle of money compared to cloud pricings :)

ahh - so the cloud provider you use, has a datacenter in your country, and hence you believe it protected under your countries laws? Problem with that assumption is US FISA laws. Those are the reason the EU GDPR legislation is in conflict with US law, and hence we cannot legally keep person data on US owned servers (even in our own country as FISA says to hand over to US without informing data owner).

@Di4na but if enough pay for Ubuntu, or contribute to it (we do 95% open source devel on our own, and PRs for upstream projects we use), then Ubuntu can afford to pay developers atleast. Funding every upstream is difficult and is probably best done through a central org, like a distro

Luckily patreon etc is helping, to enable visible projects with a large userbase to get support directly, but then they will have to adopt libs, or patreon to support those, that do not attract enough user focus, for them to get patreons.

@Di4na Pushing "public code" initiative - might help this, as goverments around the world would then automaticly become part of the users, and then hopefully also start to consider their role in helping to maintain the open source they use and benefit from.
