(3/?) Now the other side also has a bit of a pattern. I mucked with the photo settings a bit to try to pick up the iridescence of the beads. #tilingTuesday #beading

(7/?) This is a picture from partway along, I was checking to make sure that I was beading the “lines” in the right place. I think that the beading aligned rather well with my pattern of dodecagons. At least it did after I figured out how to size the pattern to the beads that I was using, and then get it to print to size.

(2/?) Adding some black “lines” on top of the pattern.

(4/?) The individual motifs from the background tiling are the same as those that I used in this sequence ( https://mathstodon.xyz/@HypercubicPeg/109043217999286054) but the intended arrangement is different from the snub square arrangement used in the sequence..

(5/?) The beading is meant to represent a very small part of the pattern of dodecagons shown below, which is arranged with the motifs grouped to form a rhombitrihexagonal tiling. I messed up a bit with consistency of the colours. In the snub-square/cairo tiling sequence, I coloured the dodecagons representing the borders of the regular shapes with white, but here I used black instead. And now, what about the dual?

@gwenbeads@mathstodon.xyz @matthras@aus.social Thank you Gwen, I hadn’t seen her work before. I had tried to do a bit of online image searching, but I don’t think that I had spotted anything really similar. Thanks to you, I now know that the term that I was missing was “bead quilling”. Some of the stuff that I have done when crocheting through beads did make use of being able to see the thread. But the stuff I was doing most recently involved very thin transparent polyester thread (Coats & Clark). I wish I knew how long the stuff is expected to last before disintegrating. I have heard bad things about nylon fishing line, but do not know if that extends to sewing-grade mono-filament. Hopefully the bead lace will remain together without having to embed it in plastic or something like that. I took a look at your website/etsy and some of the tiling-type patterns and geometric figures that you have managed while using beads the “proper” way are amazing.

(6/?) That dual consists of a bunch of kites…which, unless I am mistaken, just might be the type that can be used to make hats and turtles 😁. I didn’t have the patience to bead very much of this, so there is not enough to really show the kites or hats. The few lines from kites were shown as iridescent beads, where the slightly whiter ones represented lines from hats. #aperiodicMonotile

@matthras@aus.social @gwenbeads@mathstodon.xyz Thank you Matt! It may take a while to get bored of knitting and crochet, there are lots of things to try. But if you are the sort to keep things rather than giving them away, you may find that you have to eventually scale down to avoid running out of space. I think that I probably learned to crochet over 40 years ago, and I seem to have transitioned to crocheting with thread somewhere along the line 😁😊. I am somewhat curious if Gwen’s book has any information on techniques on beading so that the beads have their holes facing “up”. I ended up figuring out a few ways to do that so that I could represent my edge-touching regular polygon patterns relatively accurately, but I am not sure if this is a very standard thing to do. I don’t think that these patterns would translate really well if the beads had to be oriented correctly.
