The most interesting happening this week is about cycling, and walking, and feeling much safer as a Berkeley road user in the future after our City Council voted 7-2 to pass an item to repave Hopkins Street in Berkeley with new protected bike lanes and pedestrian safety improvements! #BikeTooter #BikeNite

Now, I value comfort very much, and my upright seated e-bike is the perfect commuter/grocery getter/I'm-bored-let's-ride kind of bike. I think I should get that Da Brim visor before the next #eastbaykidicalmass, which happens 8/8/2026 at Lake Merritt in Oakland! #BikeNite #BikeTooter

My roadie turns 40 this year, but it's really just the frame, fork, bars, shifters, and, remarkably, the derailleurs (both Shimano 600) that turn 40. Literally every thing else on my bike has been replaced. Note on the shifters - they survived because they are downtube friction shifters. They have an option to shift six gears indexed, but I selected the friction option 20 years ago when I upgraded the drivetrain to a 9 speed cassette. This is a long way for me to say it's about the frame in my mind. Even with the upgrades and replaced parts, it's still the same bike to me. #BikeTooter #BikeNite

@ascentale @xtaran @bikenite A1. I'm posting from Berkeley, CA today as usual. I prefer rechargeable, built-in batteries for removable lights. The battery capacity for rechargeables is great these days. Even better are the fixed lights that run off my e-bike's battery. I don't have to worry about bringing the lights with me when I lock up! #BikeNite #Biketooter
