I got a new laptop! It comes with $NEWJOB which I may toot about more later once I have settled in.

It's a very nice Thinkpad T14. I installed #Debian on it, per company policy (yes, it's a cool company).

Unfortunately, their LAN offered #IPv6 but the IPv6 didn't work. So the installer kept seizing up when it came time to download packages.

Solution: CTRL+FN+ALT+F2, root shell, run this:

echo 'Acquire::ForceIPv4 "true";' >/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99force-ipv4

I post silly things on LinkedIn. And things that challenge the AI hype-brigade.

Here, I am more tempted to post serious or thoughtful things, or talk about stuff that might be positive about AI. Or just dadtoot.

I'm just really contrarian, aren't I? But also I just don't feel that saying "yes!" and agreeing all the time helps anyone! Friendly disagreement and challenging our opinions is how we refine our arguments and our thoughts!

I opted out of allowing Github to use my repos to train their AI. For me, this was not a no-brainer. I mulled it over.

I got into FOSS because I was given access to free tools at a young age and I was so impressed at the generosity of people who shared their work so a kid like me could play and learn and grow.

I've been trying to be cool like those early devs ever since. Licenses have always been a means to an end. The goal was to share.

Training an AI is another way to share.
