@mttaggart@infosec.exchange My brother tackled online safety for his kids by not allowing them to have their own computers until partway through high school. There was only one PC in the house, and it was in the parents' bedroom. At some point the kids got laptops so they could type up school papers, but my brother would shut off the wifi to limit the kids internet time.

@Viss@mastodon.social @cR0w@infosec.exchange One habit I developed from messing about with 8-bit systems as a kid was to make frequent backups. Also, the family 386 I shared while attending university was a bit crashy. Kept my papers on both floppy and HDD. To this day when playing a game that does not auto-save. I walk my characters to a safe spot and manually save at least once an hour or after a passing difficult challenge.

I'm currently cobbling together a PC from older parts to test if Linux might be right for me before I commit my primary system. Was there anything at the event for someone at my level of Linux knowledge?
