For unburied radials resting on the ground at a semi-permanent installation at the QTH, is there any particular reason to *not* use bare steel wire (i.e., electric fence wire) as opposed to insulated copper?
Unknown mineral, likely some sort of weird-ass amphibole because rocks in New England sure love to form weird-ass amphiboles. This is in a layer of "dirty" marble from a boulder of the local Waits River Formation, which is metamorphosed and deformed small ocean basin: deep sea muds (now gorgeous phyllites and schists) on one side of the basin. Grungy-ass interlayered carbonates, mudstones, garnet-bearing schists, and quartzites on the near-shore portion of the basin.
Folds for @tsherrygeo@m.ai6yr.org from locally-derived boulders.
Believe it or not, the first photo is basalt... deconstructed by melting during subduction into tonalite + amphibolite. Things got Hot To Go.
Are trapped end-fed random wires a thing? Can't find any examples of them (only for trapped dipoles).
Would solve my 80m vs 160m problem.
