@bluejay@ohai.social I would guess there’s only a handful of people that can read/speak that. That reminds me of something. Have you ever watched any videos on people talking in old english? It’s wild to me that it’s changed so much over the past few hundred years. Language has its own evolution and that’s pretty interesting to me.
As a further point, not everyone could read or write back then. This technology has to be taught in order to be used. Great job pulling from history like that. Also, look how decorated those pages are. Whoever made that took great pride in it.

Pic1. A bee peeks out of its room at the insect motel.
Pic2. A bee tried to enter an already occupied space, this was met with an angry bee telling it to go find its own hole in the wall and it flies off somewhere else.
(Forgive the lack of sharpness, this was incredibly hard to capture.)
Taken with the X-H1 and a vintage Vivitar MC 75-205mm f3.5. I was a little surprised at how sharp this lens is for being 50 years old. It renders the background really attractively too. It’s got some nice character.
Photinus pyralis, The Common Eastern #Firefly or locally known here as a “lightning bug”. These #bugs will start flashing around twilight in spring and #summer months in the eastern US. They certainly put on a show. Males will fly in a J-pattern while lighting their abdomens with light-activated proteins to attract females. Females who rest on bushes and trees nearby will flash back at them if interested in mating. I’m not sure if this one is a male or female since it was taken during the day but since it was a rather large one I’d guess female.

A local bully cat had chased Shelby up a tree, so I went over and rescued her, but not before snapping a shot with my phone. She just reminded me of the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland so much.
That is very cool! We have many stink bugs over here in the US but not any yellow face ones like that. I would love to shoot macro photos of bugs in Southeast Asia.
Your very own Luck Dragon, the Salt Marsh Moth. Hop onto its delightful mane and ride into a Neverending Story…
In the second picture I believe that’s a clutch of eggs at the bottom. I didn’t really notice it when I shot this. I revisited it and will post a better picture of just that sometime in the coming days. Also this moth has an orange abdomen but you have to pester the moth to get it to show, so I didn’t do that.

Is this happening to anyone else? I got notifications saying people liked my post, then I click on it and it’s someone else’s post that looks like I posted it. In this case it’s Arcturus and Jess Stetson’s. Has my account been compromised?

#SilentSunday Thank you to everyone for your heartfelt replies. They mean a lot to me. She passed peacefully this morning. I’m glad I could be there with her. I’m sad but also relieved that she isn’t suffering anymore. Now comes the time for emotional healing for my family and myself. I love you all and the supportive community that we have here. Again thank you, and hopefully soon I can get back out there and take more bug portraits. 🥰 ✌️

#SilentSunday Ya know, Dementia is a hell of a disease. It takes your loved ones and leaves their body behind. My Mom got diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s almost 10 years ago. It’s been a long time since she’s remembered who I am. But that’s okay. She was a good mother to me. I have many fond memories of my childhood like her taking me to the playground or lighting the candles on one of my birthday cakes. So as I sit with her in hospice, I want to dedicate this post to all the wonderful moms out there that teach, nurture, and guide us to become who we are. And if you haven’t talked to your parents in a while, make sure you do so soon. You never know when you won’t have the chance anymore.

This is (I believe) a Samurai Wasp. The barrels are stink bug eggs. The is technically a parasite because it lays its eggs inside the egg containers of the stink bugs and the larvae will consume the stink bug larvae. The samurai wasp will stay with her babies until they hatch to ensure that the job is done. What a good mother! 🥰
