☕Feeling generous? Here's my kofi : https://ko-fi.com/doodledonut
I want to draw (Doesn't draw)
I want to make a game (Doesn't make a game)
Rule of Threes (Doesn't have a third thing)
Maturity is being able to let someone else have the last word in an argument where you've said all that needs to be said.
Sometimes, if I've been doing a lot of coding, I'll find myself writing code in my head while trying to go to sleep at night. Even stuff like putting a print statement to debug something, and then running the code (in my head) to see if there's an error or it hits my print statement.
Then I catch myself and am like...no, your brain will not reliably execute code just by imagining it happening, what do you think you're doing?
Watching Stargate SG1 and every time they talk about calling up the president to get permission for some crazy stargate shenanigans, it's treated with this feeling of reverence and respect. And every time...I just have to laugh at how ridiculous that notion is, currently.
Every now and then, I see someone toss trash out of their window while driving, and it never fails to astonish me that there are genuinely people like that.
At the same time, I'm NOT surprised because *gestures broadly*, but there's something about witnessing it happen that always just feels odd to me.
It's like the returning your shopping cart level of basic human decency, except even easier. You don't even have to go out of your way to keep that shit in your car, and just toss it into a garbage bin whenever you get out.
The problem with baking your own bread is that it actually tastes good. Like I'd never open up the cabinet and munch on some sandwich bread...but similar home-baked bread? Gone, immediately.

It's amusing to me how many ways bath+shower combos handle switching where the water comes from.
You'd think it would be simple and intuitive, but then you come across one that requires you to pull down on the edge of the bath faucet for some god-forsaken reason, instead of something with the actual knob that controls the water.
It's like bad UI but in real life.
I rearranged my living room for the first time in like...6 years. Surprisingly refreshing and makes me actually want to sit down on the couch in front of the TV and just play a console video game. It's interesting how the mind works with regard to novelty.
I usually just use my desktop computer for most entertainment these days, so in many ways my cat used the living room more than me lol.
Finally got all medals in the Starfox remake.
It's funny, I don't think I ever got medals on every stage in Starfox 64. Not because I couldn't, but because I would only ever do the expert route, with a deliberate change to avoid Sector Z at the end so I could do the cool tank mission instead.
I've been having fried eggs on toast for breakfast for years now, and I think I might switch to poaching them instead. I always like the yolk to be a little runny, but with fried eggs you also run the risk of getting the egg white runny too (no good).
Nobody cares about this but me, but that's what a micro-blogging platform exists for so now you get to know.
I feel like my inability to latch onto a gamedev project is more of a symptom of where I'm at in my life than anything else. I've always found fulfillment through creative expression, but the last half a year or so I've felt unable to do that anymore.
It's kinda part of why I think I've gotten so much more into running. Sometimes I go for a super long run just because I want to feel like I accomplished something and/or space out for an hour or two.
But that lack of ability to *feel* anything with my creative pursuits is so frustrating. I think my brain just doesn't produce as much happy chemicals as other folks. I'm not depressed, but my experience of life just feels lower amplitude and I feel like that's why I drift between things on a surface level rather than commit to long term passion projects.
I just keep going back to wanting to feel passionate about a project again, and wish I could find that spark and sustain it.
Really tired of my brain deciding to have a low-key but pervasive feeling of imminent dread these past several months. It's due to a combo of all the terrible political stuff combined with worrying I'll lose my job to AI at some point.
I'm not *super* concerned about the latter, but ever since my higher-up has gone all-in on Claude, it just has me on edge and I feel like my reluctance to jump fully into that shit is degrading that professional relationship.
I haven't been unemployed since I graduated college more than a decade ago...only between jobs I quit voluntarily a couple times. Thankfully things would be a lot different now versus then when I had zero money, but it's still unnerving, especially thinking about having to wade through the tech job market and all the AI bullshit.
Anyway...not an actual concern yet thankfully. This is just what I do -- trying to imagine every worst case scenario so I can have a plan.
I'm re-watching Stargate SG1 now. I've seen it through once, a long time ago, and I remember there being a LOT of fluff, but that I enjoyed it nonetheless.
See you in 8 years
I tried watching SGU but I couldn't take it after a couple episodes, and I've already seen Atlantis (which I did enjoy).
Major life milestone achieved:
I bought a can opener that will almost certainly not break in a handful of years
TFW Steam sends you an email saying they didn't pay you this month because your game sales haven't met the minimum threshold yet...again
Watched Disclosure Day today (new Spielberg film).
It was a decent flick, but like most movies that slowly unfurl a mystery, they can only be *great* when there's a great payoff. And...this one doesn't have it. It's one of those films that ask you, the audience, to theorize yourself.
That can be good, in certain circumstances like Inception -- where the whole film's message hinges on not knowing what is real and what is not. But this film is different (spoilers if you clicked the spoiler tag accidentally or something):
They tease the religion angle HARD throughout the whole movie. It's painfully obvious these two people are just the current day versions of "Adam" and "Eve" among a long chain of Adams and Eves...but the movie never confirms it. It just ends with an alien whispering to them, inaudibly, and that's it. I'd have preferred a concrete ending that resolves the core message of the movie, not one that just...ends abruptly.
