DH Lab IEG
The DH Lab at the Leibniz Institute of European History (IEG) marries the development of digital methods to the activities of digitally supported research on European history. In addition, the DH Lab has an impact on the work of the research areas at the IEG through the support of source criticism, heuristics, and analyses by means of digital tools and methods.
How can historical maps help us understand everyday life in early modern Germany? From “Augenscheinkarten” of the Holy Roman Empire to rough sketches in local court records. Our postdoc fellow Aaron Larsen explores “Cartography for the Commons”, a project using interactive GIS mapping to democratize spatial history. Amateur hand-drawn maps from archives, brought to life in a searchable interface.
