Hello everyone at #CoSocial (and beyond)! Time for an #introduction as we’ve migrated here.
We're a cycling advocacy group in Waterloo Region, Ontario.
In addition to our advocacy work, we're proud to have worked on the initial release of the @CyclingGuide@cosocial.ca mobile app to get it working for Waterloo people.
We're in the Fediverse to let our community know what we're up to, but also to connect with like-minded groups elsewhere!
Posts/toots here are by @uxMark@cosocial.ca
Local app makes good! Congratulations to our friends at Cycling Guide Foundation!
More on the City of Kitchener's Route 1 for people who cycle! The official opening is on Sunday 😀🚴🏼♀️❤️
Lots of cycling-related events happening in Kitchener in June!
Route 1 is one of 8 planned city-wide active transportation routes connecting neighbourhoods, major destinations, transit, and commercial areas to create a city-wide active transportation network.
Join us at 1pm on Sunday, June 7, at Filsinger Park Greenway (near Monte Carlo St) for celebratory speeches and a community walk, roll, or ride with Mayor Berry Vrbanovic and Councilors. All are welcome!
Do you have kids who are interested in cycling and you want them to learn more about doing so safely?
Check out the *Ride Safe Bike Rodeo 2026*, happening on April 25 at Queensmount Arena in Kitchener!

Here’s some news for students, staff, and faculty at the University of Waterloo. The Sustainability Office is holding a Bike Fair on June 3.
Our friends at @CyclingGuide@cosocial.ca will be there there to chat about their app and whatever else. And they’ll have *Cycling Guide stickers* to give away for anyone that wants them. Other great orgs and people will be there too. Why wouldn’t you want to be on campus for this great event!
On Sunday afternoon the City of Kitchener officially opened Route 1, its first of eight active transportation routes. It was great to see the mayor, multiple city councillors, and city staff all there for the opening ceremony, signalling just how important an active transportation milestone this is for the people of Kitchener.
The ceremony was followed by a group ride along the trail.
The annual Vélo Canada Bikes Pedal poll is happening again!
"Canadian communities are seeing a surge in micromobility, creating both opportunities and challenges for planners, governments, industry and users. To capture a snapshot of these diverse travel modes, we are launching a new micromobility count taking place over five days between June 2nd and 7th, 2026.”
Help make this a success here in Waterloo Region!
One of our members, @uxMark@cosocial.ca, did a shift for the annual Vélo Canada Bikes Pedal Poll yesterday. It's an important source of data to assess how people travel when not using motor vehicles in Waterloo Region!
Are you interested in cycling advocacy and want to dip your toes in the metaphorical water? Then save this important date!
The Annual General Meeting for CycleWR will be held virtually at 7pm on May 28, 2026. This AGM be open to members only. If you haven’t yet joined or renewed for 2026, please take a moment and do so now!

Three positions are open for election on the CycleWR board at this AGM. Contact us to apply.
Every year, Vélo Canada Bikes does a cycling (and more) count with volunteers across Canada. The results of the 2025 edition of their Pedal Poll have now been analyzed and published. Check out the details for Waterloo Region (Kitchener, in their parlance 😀).
We were previously @CycleWR@mstdn.ca here on Mastodon. We're now migrating to CoSocial, and will post an intro soon!
