@danyork I can only imagine whats going on the meta servers as someone goes down the high street wearing these - "person x identified via facebook face recognition, walking with person b - known and 1 other child also known, 1 adult unknown... etc etc... unknowns passed to human team for categorisation" That company and its CEO makes my skin crawl, IMHO totally unlawful data collection and use in public!

@lzg Time for some new guardrails maybe? "I am on the space shuttle and do I trust this tool to get me back on Earth again?!" You know its so much to do a process review, like the guys who had his data deleted... lots of root causes to mull over there. But the having a code review, well thats going to be tricky. Can this issue even be reproduced a second time?

@mu @mathew @AlSweigart My orginal comment was just to take out the fckn ego crap from leadership - surely "smart" people can work out how to do that using modern tech, and still have a lovely country to live in and not have so much waste. I am not saying I have all the answers, only I see a major issue at the moment - thats pretty obbvious right? LOL

@slotos @AlSweigart Did not know about this until I read an article - thats interesting: https://www.blockchain-council.org/blockchain/blockchain-based-voting-systems/ Personally I think we just as a species/planet need to get human emotions out of the picture in making big decisions - like digging up all the last oil, starting wars etc. We have to have some level headed advice and decisions, OK, we can put human gate-post on it. But it should never be 1 individual or party. I would even say for local issues it can be left alone!

@mathew @mu @AlSweigart True, this helped me understand: https://www.ibm.com/think/topics/ai-vs-machine-learning-vs-deep-learning-vs-neural-networks I am thinking though in a few years we should be able to ask questions of these systems, what ever level of AI we get to, to example draw up a national budget or list natitonal priorities for the population (for example health care vs military), not just to the benefit of some prime minister or president. Maybe we are already running these models. I dont know.

@mu @mathew @AlSweigart Yeah you know Mu, I think your from NZ right - you are blessed with good govourning there and dont seem to have a serious right wing issue I lost count of bad eggs in Europe and the UK and now the US in the last decade So maybe the real problem is education - school at home or society in general I dont want to get rid of people and totally get people go into politics from a perspevctive of care. But politics in the North seems art of division not togetherness IMHO

@AndrewRadev It cannot be right that the money a company saves through this tech is then "picked up" by the state (and thus our taxes) in unemployment and social protections. We all are going to be affected to a greater or lesser degree by this, there needs to be new legislation to protect sacked workers and tax payers. This needs to be a very expensive decision for employers.

@whatzaname @AndrewRadev So in Europe, which is where I can speak for, we see mass layoff happening for multiple resons If its adjusting to market forces, well we see the social protections trying to reflect that But with AI mass job replacements its much deeper Imagine for example you are 10 years from retirement and your lifelong skillset is thrown in the trash OK thats maybe going to happen anyway, but dont let the tax payers pay for costs of unemployment for the employers gain!

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu Having lived in Europe for 30 years I however can see the environmental degradation that happened through uncontrolled road building, industrialisation and very low levels of natural habitat reserve The country I am currently resident does not leave a cm2 un-manicured or tampered with. Its gone on for so long whole generations do not understand what nature is and the difference to farm land, I have the feeling I live in a carpark

@AlSweigart@mastodon.social Compare the rather obvious "baiting" by AI's with the convoluted lies and manipulations by humans at the moment on the world stage. I'd much rather have an AI running the show as long as its trained only by compassionate and aware human data, themselves elected from society. Then have the civil servants carry out all the work and offer in AI guardrails. Keep the ego's and lies out of leadership! Bring back Transparency and Integrity. Just an Idea 😉

The key indicators for me is that fundamental principles of independent science, press and judiciary are eroded IE the sources of Truth, Reflection and Boundaries
