As the #SamNeill tributes and compliments flood in - each one deserved - two things stand out. One is that Mr.Neill was warmly loved as someone generous & down-to-earth. The other is that he aged wonderfully. Always a handsome man, he let the grey hairs appear and he wore them so well. I look old. He looked distinguished and his demeanour only added to that dashing charm. He looked smarter with every passing day.
The world has lost one of its good guys today; one of its decent human beings.

The march of progress... I've taken delivery of a #Cisco Nexus N5K-C5624Q switch for my home lab. It has twelve 40 Gbps QSFP ports. My first exposure to ethernet was 10Base2 and 10Base5 in all its CSMA/CD glory. This was in the early 1990s. Cheapernet/Yellow String, T-pieces, terminators, 3C503 & NE2000 cards... I thought there'd never be a need to go beyond 10 Mbps. How times change.
Frustrating problem solved. Recently received #Cisco Nexus N5K-C5624Q switch was dead-on-arrival, "DIMMs are not present in the system" and "ERROR: MRC failed". Very little online info as these aren't meant to be user-serviceable. Good suggestion from seller, hadn't considered this. Possibly dead CMOS battery. I've swapped the coin cell & reseated the 8GB DIMM. It now boots normally. Still a mystery if it was the battery, DIMM connection or maybe both. Annoying but glad it's solved.
That's another #Cisco router expanded & chonked out. This second hand 2921 came with a uck9 (voice) license. It now has the equivalent of a full 1Gbps 48 port PoE-capable 3560 layer 3 switch (making the parent device a swouter), quad FXO and FXS voice modules, a quad T1/E1 module, a dual smart serial module, a whole heap of DSP, 2.5GB RAM, dual Compact Flash cards and a partridge in a pear tree. If I decide to refresh my #CCNA then this sort of setup helps.
Promising news on BBC site about a breakthrough ovarian #cancer treatment becoming available on our health service. Monoclonal Antibody (MAB) regimens aren't a new phenomenon overall. I'm guessing their already promising trajectory is advancing in efficacy & reducing collateral damage to non-cancerous cells.
My chemo 24 years ago didn't involve MAB but, if and when I fall out of remission & my NHL returns, maybe I too will then receive MAB.

It's one thing to have a choppy & shouty tiktok-esque generico yelling my glands off over something planet-detonatingly exciting & urgent. I swipe away as soon as they start on that nonsense. I find it harder when I'm chilling with a playlist from someone I trust to be rational, factual & balanced, only for their next contribution to adopt that same patronising tone.
Modern social media content clickbait titles sometimes annoy me. The common style is to shout that some situation or historical event was "so much worse than you think". They scream about "ten things you didn't know about" blahblah. It's really quite insulting to tell your audience what they do and don't know, what they do and don't think. Maybe a lot of their viewers DON'T know about The Secret Thing, but some will. I'm generally pretty stupid but I do have my specialisms and expert knowledge.

Bollocks. Utter and complete bollocks. TanTrump does NOT speak for the UK. Harry has at least a hypothetical fuzzy ability to do so, though not much TanTrump, though, is not from the UK. It has made statements against the UK. On a number of occasions it has spoken and acted in a manner not in keeping with that of a close ally or of a party to the cringeworthy 'special relationship' between us.

@666k9s@mas.to Our three owners love their Catio. Until we had it installed a little over a year ago, they were all 100% indoor girls. I had some initial reservations as Jade has CH and is not too steady on her feet, but I was glad to be proven wrong. Now we just need to work out how to solve the problem of them destroying the wooden framing posts that serve as an inviting supersize scratching toy. All their christmases came at once when they discovered those posts. They're such vandals!

I haven't been near GNS3 since my #CCNA a few years ago, so I decided to refresh my memory. I'd forgotten how much fun it can be, even over working through its quirks and limitations. I put this basic topology together; four routers, two swouters and a pair of endpoint pseudo PCs. I configured a rudimentary single-area OSPF topology on it and verified everything had the correct reachability. Next will be modifications to implement address space efficiency. That's typically what I did previously.

I had another try with less punctuation and a simpler series of questions and statements. Poor Eliza still didn't quite convince me somehow.
Even in the early 1980s, Eliza and friends were not quite making my pulse quicken or send my excitement level soaring gloriously into the stratosphere. In 2026 it is still a historically interesting diversion, but AI has come a long way.
