Love DuckDuckGo. Not only can you watch YouTube videos without ads or other distractions, you're also able to switch off AI-generated images, Duck AI, and Search Assist if you prefer a 'normal' search experience.
Better for the planet. Better for your brain.
It's the strangest thing: enquiries are sure to come in when you're either unwell or on holiday.
The reverse is also true.
Just in case anyone here uses Instagram: switch off its access to your location in your mobile settings, not just within Instagram. It seems its map privacy settings aren't working correctly.
There's a new Insta map functionality that pinpoints exactly where you are. (Not at all dodgy.) It's just been rolled out US-wide, but I wouldn't put it past them to do this in the UK, too.
And while you're at it, revoke other apps' access to your location unless they're essential.
Happy new year! Trying to stay offline as much as possible in 2026.
This looks good:

And why not get back to letter/postcard writing...?
:)
“Live facial recognition surveillance turns our faces into barcodes and makes us a nation of suspects who, as we’ve seen in Shaun’s case, can be falsely accused, grossly mistreated and forced to prove our innocence to authorities.”
@keefeglise@mastodonapp.uk We could start with the Royal Family...
@keefeglise@mastodonapp.uk Thanks, Keith! I guess higher taxes are inevitable. I just would like to see the money spent sensibly and efficiently. And I'd like big corporations and very rich people pay more, too.
If only UK tuition fees weren't so ridiculously high. As it is, universities have to rely on certain overseas income to survive.
How did they ever manage to offer free education?
@BryanLastRedDrop@toot.community Glad you found it and switched it off. So fed up with this sneaky behaviour.
They've actually "taken up the issue" with the British Embassy in Rome. 💀
If I did that every time I was served a supposedly typical "German" dish in the UK...
Last time, it was Schnitzel with pesto. 😵💫
@keefeglise@mastodonapp.uk Did people pay that much more tax up to the mid-90s? (And did the government borrow more then, too?)
