@fabio Here in the US, its basically baked in to Republican politicians and business owners to complain about regulations. But what they forget (or ignore) is, most regulations aren't just dreamt up by someone trying to make life difficult. Most are there either to make things work (standards) or a reaction to people/businesses doing bad things (polluting, defrauding, etc). If companies choose community over higher profits, we wouldn't need so many regulations.

If, God forbid, someone were to kill a loved one of mine, i would expect them to serve a jail sentence for it. But if i can't forgive them, then I'm basically serving a different kind of imprisonment. I'm not saying it would be easy in that scenario, so i would never fault someone who can't get there. But i do think there is compelling evidence that you're better off if you can.

@Gargron@mastodon.social I suppose this is a little like when your child grows up and goes out into the world on their own. While you're still around for advice, there's a lot less input on the day-to-day stuff and you just hope that the values you tried to instill will guide them well on their journey. @cmconseils Here in the US, the companies have a good chunk of the population figured out. Now you may think that means we're a bunch of easily duped rubes, but we did elect tRump twice.
