Hi everyone, I'm just your average former gifted kid trying (and mostly failing) to hold onto my last shred of faith for humanity... As well as my livelihood. I'm addicted to media because skynet is real and its name is youtube, and because Video Games help me cope with my stressful job.

Unapolagetic Linux user. I took the FOSS pill and didn't look back. Fuck you, Microsoft!

I started my Fediverse life on pettingzoo.co, but now I've migrated here because it's closing down.

So here's a fun fact that I'm delighted to have learned: apparently, there are, like, way more fish in the sea than we thought. Like ridiculously so. Over ten times our estimates in some cases. And giant squid? You have no idea. Just from how frequently any sign of giant squid was discovered anywhere in the world, we assumed they were extremely rare. Turns out no, they're swarming the fuck out of the deep sea and we had no idea for the longest time. So, how did we find this out? Well, it starts with those same giant squid I just mentioned. It was known that sperm whales feed on giant squid, so some marine biologists started checking the stomach and stool contents of sperm whales, and what they found didn't make much sense. Like 70% of the whales' diets was giant squid. Which would require there to be millions of giant squid. But we rarely ever see giant squid, and all we ever see of giant squid are bloated washed-up corpses, so that doesn't make sense, right? It's gotta be a weird statistical anomaly. So this was more or less dismissed as a theory. Then, a particular marine biologist managed to get her hands on a giant squid eyeball (the size of a G-dang basketball by the way) and did some careful analysis, and found that their eyes had a surprising visual range, way longer than the cameras on deep sea drones we'd been sending down to their supposed habitats and finding none of them. So, new theory: the squids are just hiding from us. The cameras use really bright lights to be able to see in the benthic depths, and this intense light is scaring the squids away from further away than the cameras can see them. This theory is considered silly by most, but she does have the biological data from the eyeball, so eventually she's able to convince people to build a really, really expensive deep sea drone with a really, really powerful camera that can see clearly with barely any light, and can see in lights that, according to the data, these giant squids can't. So, they build this drone, they send it down expecting to see something maaaaybe within a couple days. They see a squid ninety seconds in. Then another. Then another. There are so many fucking squids "Millions" is discovered to be an underestimate. They are fucking EVERYWHERE. There's no escaping them. They're seeing like dozens of squids an hour. Now that we're no longer dropping the fucking sun into their living room, they're no longer running for the valleys as soon as we get close. They tested this out in other oceanic environments, and it's the same deal; there's so much shit than we thought there was, because every time our cameras get close, they've already fled from the mysterious orb of baleful deathlight descending from the unknown heavens. They even dipped this drone into what we thought was the least biologically dense area ON THE PLANET, just a complete ecological dead zone, and once the scary sun camera was gone, we saw so many god damn species of fish, it turned out to be one of the MORE ecologically diverse areas on the planet. Like, not a contender for MOST, but it was up there. Crazy biological diversity. So many fish that humans just never had the opportunity to witness. So yeah, TL;DR it turns out the ocean is WAY more full of life than we thought, we were just throwing a nine bang into the fish party's living room and wondering why there was nobody around after it finished exploding.

I can't believe I never thought to add peanut butter to my ramen broth before now. This shit slaps so hard. I can't even taste how shitty the Maruchan noodles are. I don't know if I'm going to be able to go back to eating instant ramen without peanut butter, this is so good.

Little caesar's pizza is weird. It's hard to explain what I mean by that. Best I can do is like, I can taste quality, ok? If you give me food, I can savor it, and be like "oh yeah, this is high-quality stuff, they used good ingredients and good technique" or "this is really low quality, like really cheap bottom of the barrel stuff."
That in mind: by my measure, the pizza at Little Caesars has no quality to speak of. It doesn't taste *good.*
What it does taste, is delicious. Their pizza is very tasty, and very satisfying to eat, even though it tastes noticeably cheap and crappy.
So yeah, I like little Caesars a lot. The pizza is delicious, and very cheap. You'll be hard pressed to find a better deal on pizza.

I'm getting increasingly attached to a silly character concept I came up with off the cuff: a demon (or devil or what have you) bound into service by a poorly-worded contract. Known by such quotes as:
"I offered that bastard two wishes. They used the first wish to get a damn good lawyer."
"Call me what you will. My contract does not require me to divulge my true name. And if you ask for it, I WILL slap you. Mister Smithson calls me Mendy."
"I'm supposed to be on vacation right now, you know? If we lived in a just cosmos, I wouldn't be here; I'd be reclining by blackspit lake, sipping a nice hot glass of rotmeth, listening to the soothing sound of a freshly-peeled lemure."
"Oh, well excuse me for forgetting you're a pansy who needs a special tool to grab metal that's a bit too red."

I'd like to see a Wreck-It Ralph short where there's some kind of retro celebration at the arcade, so the arcade owner brings in, among other classic rented cabinets, turbotime. And naturally, after being plugged in, Turbo decides to head into the circuit breaker and mingle with the rest of the game characters, who are all absolutely terrified of him because of what the previous Turbo did. I imagine it probably ends with Ralph and Vanillope sitting down and having a pleasant chat over some of Tapper's root beer, and helping explain to the despondent Turbo why everyone's so afraid of him. Or maybe they're still too shaken up by when the last Turbo tried to kill them and somebody else delivers that explanation. I just kind of want to see how that whole thing plays out.

Why did Bubsy, of all failed attempts to make a new mascot from that time period, stick? Like, I can see why Blinx and Vexx and Awesome Possum and Aero the Acro-Bat and whatnot fell into obscurity, but why out of all those did Bubsy manage to stay relevant? Were sales for the first two Bubsy games just that good? Was it The Room syndrome from Bubsy 3D? Was it something else? Like I'm genuinely confused here.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining; Bubsy 4D looks absolutely kickass, and I enjoyed Bubsy 1 anyway. I'm just like. Out of all the cut-rate half-assed new mascot attmepts, why is Bubsy the one that's popular enough to get a revival?

I had considered the guy being a cleric of Dionysus but while struggling in that direction the automated name generator that my brain installed without my consent came up with "bodacious" as the name for a party god and I was just like "okay yeah that's funnier"

Concept: in this fantasy setting, an adventurer (or adventuring party) hears of a nearby kingdom with a mad king problem, and so resolves to help the people overthrow the mad king.

When they arrive at the border, they say they've come to defeat the mad king, but the guard just gives a knowing laugh and lets them past without incident.

When they stop for a rest at an inn, they again say they've come to defeat the mad king, but are surprised when this prompts the folks they're drinking with to call a toast to the mad king. Still, they offer no resistance to the apparent goal of taking the mad king down, and wish the adventurer(s) luck.

When they arrive at the palace, they draw weapons and declare to the palace guards they have come to defeat the mad king. The guards have a good laugh, and let the party through without resistance. When asked why they're so unconcerned with this incursion, the guard captain just says "you'll see."

Finally, they enter the king's chamber, to find him in the midst of discussing a subsidy plan to help with a grain shortage some parts of the kingdom are facing. The king asks them to wait a moment, and when discussions are finished, introduces himself as Mad King Ricker. The party is confused; why does this man refer to himself as mad king? When they heard of a mad king they had expected a violent tyrant who rules through blood, but he seems to be a quite well-adjusted and effective ruler, intent on doing right by his people. So, naturally, they ask: why are you called the Mad King?"

"Why? Because you had to be mad to want to be king of this country! You wouldn't believe how many things were going wrong before my era, and of course, someone would always blame the king, and if he didn't fix things fast enough - and how could he, too many problems all making each other worse - that's when the assassins get moving. People were playing hot potato with the crown; a kingdom needs a king, but nobody wanted to be it. Except me; I was the only one who thought he was hot enough shit to actually ASK for the crown! And it turned out, I was right! Folks are calling this the kingdom's golden age. Ask anyone, they're all singing the praises of Mad King Ricker!"

uggghhh
just woke up from a nap and I feel so... I dunno, pubby seems an appropriate word
I don't wanna get up, I don't wanna go back to work tomorrow, I don't even wanna move. I just wanna curl up on the couch like a pampered kitty and sleep aaaaaaaallllll week, occasionally getting up for a few hours at a time to do some eating or gaming or watching fun things.
I hate that I have to spend 40 hours a week doing stressful work... I wish we lived in a more just world where garbage like this just didn't happen.

I feel like homebrewed retro games are gonna make a surge. A creation kit for random folks to make their own N64 games got released recently. apparently the same sort of thing exists for gameboy because someone released a gameboy-compatible rom for a fanmade gameboy animal crossing game on itch.io. (link by the way: https://richterwilker.itch.io/animal-forest-gb-folk ) And I'm not even looking for this stuff specifically, it just rolled onto my dash. I just get the feeling this is gonna go off sometime soon, if it hasn't already.

I have been informed that there exists a variety of tomato that grows extremely small. To the point that each individual tomato is the size of, like, a blueberry. And they're really sweet and tasty, but harvesting them is a pain.

I can't help but assume this is how tomatoes used to look before we domesticated them, or at least very close to it. I have no proof, obviously, but it just makes sense that a "wild" tomato would have a much smaller berry, right?
