I am so sick of people who know nothing about Jews or Judaism making some “Judaism is a beautiful ancient religion” comment as an excuse to use the next breath to engage in antisemitic and Zionophobic rhetoric.
The fact that you place us into your Christian concepts of “religion,” rather than acknowledge our ethnoreligious peoplehood and our history as a repeatedly exiled people, makes you utterly unqualified to dictate who and what we are.
Can I just recognize that this is really hard? Like really hard?
As you know, I don’t have your experience, but there are words about me and my people that I think come close and I can understand what you’re saying.
But there’s also a difference between a person uttering a word and a person saying it when they mean it. Both hurt, but the latter is so much worse.
I remember when I was in high school a Black friend asked me what a certain slur about me meant. Hearing them utter it was hurtful, but knowing they just didn’t know was mitigating and gave me an educable moment.
Tourette’s is obviously different and it isn’t an educable moment about the word, but it’s also a situation where the intent to be hurtful isn’t present.
So, yeah. You’re right. But also this is just really hard.

Spent some time on socials and discovered that the left is totally cool with Soviet antisemitism, but some folks, but certainly not all, get a bit concerned when that natural move to classical antisemitism happens, because it’s just a bit “too overt” at that point.
Wondering how long it will take for “Knesset passes 2026 budget” to be reframed as “Netanyahu delays elections.”
Is that the only “non-credible” part? Because I found his claims that (1) Israel's "powerful American lobby" caused the war in Iran, (2) Israel "dr[e]w us into the disastrous Iraq war," or (3) our fight against ISIS in Syria was "a war manufactured by Israel" not only non-credible, but deeply ahistorical and steeped in antisemitism along the lines of the old “Court Jew” and “Jew puppet master” style canards.

Difficult time is rather generous. The Kielce pogrom by Poles resulted in the murder of 42 Jews (based on old fashioned blood libel). The Rzeszów pogrom participants beat Jews and stole their belongings. And those were only two examples
The post-Holocaust pogroms, particularly in Kielce, convinced those displaced Jews that tried to return to Poland that there was no Jewish future in Poland and mass emigrated to Israel.

If that’s the point I’m “missing,” it seems like a rather false dichotomy to go from mekka’s initial post that assumed lack of intent and discussed even lack of intent causing harm and having a discussion based on that premise to “assuming that a disabled person is a saint is ableism,” but if that’s what you want to go with, go ahead.

As I understand it (admittedly as someone who was waiting for AKOTSK to air rather than watching the BAFTAs), the substance of the film about him is exactly this. So based on that context and mekka’s post, I was operating under the assumption that it was a symptom, not an excuse. Of course, if that assumption is faulty, then it’s not hard at all.
