@angusm@mastodon.social You shouldn't understand the world through low resolution platitudes, actually.

@yakmacker@society.kalli.st I don't even think it's a profit motive issue. I think people who have difficulty learning about a field are more incentivized by the Internet to deceive themselves into believing it's a hoax. It makes them feel bigger. Before the Internet, it's more obvious who is a trusted source and who isn't, but online, especially with anonymity, people who don't know anything can present themselves as experts and tempt others to indulge in disinfo-driven self-affirmation.

I have fallen into the Delta Quadrant and I can't get out.

@RachelThornSub@famichiki.jp It's the only influential platform for independent macro blogging that has a good interface. It would be great if someone built an alternative.

@RachelThornSub@famichiki.jp Substack has Silicon Valley bux behind it and a lot of its popular writers are Thiel proxies so whatever Ghost is should recruit some forward thinking multimillionaires and get competitive.

@guts@clew.lol Tragic

@RachelThornSub@famichiki.jp Because sort of definitionally, if you're writing in a public forum, you want it to be seen by the public, or it would just be a journal. Idk what Ghost is and I have accounts on everything so that's probably part of the problem.

@feld@friedcheese.us It's kind of crazy that it is even possible for the backups to be ruined. Seems not that hard a thing to avoid.

@eunews@mastodon.social Why would they?

@Jirikiha@raphus.social @eunews@mastodon.social Idk how advantageous that is when you're on a different continent. It's not going to be as seamless as going from France to Belgium. You also lose some degree of sovereignty when you submit to a system in which you are an outlier that won't be considered by the more relevant parties. It would make more sense imo, once Trump is gone and hopefully Democrats enforce normalcy through some kind of executive reform, for them to strengthen ties with the US. Canada already has easy travel between the border states but it would be great if we could act in each other's mutual interest and invest more in each other culturally in a serious way.
