@ZachWeinersmith I don’t know, but if I may be allowed to be nepostic, I learned linear algebra from the 1980 edition of my father’s textbook, and I thought it was excellent: Elementary Linear Algebra, by Paul C. Shields. Of course, I had the advantage of being able to consult with the author. 😉

@mythologyandhistory@mas.to There’s a wonderful link between Bell’s pulsar work and a poem by Adrienne Rich. https://andrewjshields.blogspot.com/2021/08/heartbeat-of-pulsar-adrienne-richs-1968.html

@tzimmer_history One thing I’ve noticed with switching from Blogspot to Ghost for my blog is the considerable decrease in random hits from the internet. But of course that’s not a matter of how many subscribers there are. In any case, I’ll stick with you, and I’ll keep sharing your posts, which are as good as ever!

@tzimmer_history@mastodon.social I’ve been looking forward to the opportunity to pay for your work for months now, and I’m glad to hear that you’ve finally been able to set something up that works well for you and your plans! I might not have a moment to sign up for a paid subscription for a few days, but I do have time to agree with you: “Onward. Forward!"

@stancarey A few months ago, I read a Substack post by cognitive scientist and AI-critic Gary Marcus about his amusement at a use of his name as a verb. Someone using his arguments against AI had “Gary Marcus’d” someone hyping it. I tried to find GM’s post for you, but it didn’t come up in searches on his Substack.

@D_J_Nathanson@mastodon.social I live in Basel, where Z&A are from. Originally, it was a one-man album by Manuel Gagneux. Nobody noticed the album here, but it got enough international success that Manuel had to put together a band to perform the music, and then the band won the local Basler Pop Prize. – Perhaps you knew all this already!
