@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org ...and the drive to persuade people to accept the easy way presented by ChatGPT has a huge amount of investor money behind it. More money than what the same investors are betting (very successfully!) on Google/Facebook etc. being able to affect consumer behaviour just a little more than other providers of ads. Including political ads, mind you. @StumpyTheMutt@social.linux.pizza

@StumpyTheMutt@social.linux.pizza I think it's important to distinguish between the generic concern (using *any* tool means you may lose the ability to work without it) from the specific one: Using okay-ish interpolated text to respond to a question replaces the need to actually consider it. Now, nobody can consider every question in-depth, and most responses are reflexive already. The Problem I see is by allowing LLMs to put words in their mouths, people might adopt whatever opinion ChatGPT provides. @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org

@mttaggart In academia, it's academics using LLMs to summarize papers or reports produced with LLMs ... which makes me wonder if it wouldn't be more efficient to just publish the prompts instead because they contain all the novel information. Otherwise it's just machines keeping humans occupied.... we don't need superhuman artificial intelligence to enslave humankind. Just LLMs, engagement metrics and optimisation.
