Important notes when interacting with me:
- Please assume good intent and a friendly tone unless noted otherwise. I will try to mark jokes as such.
- Please tell me when I am doing something wrong/making you uncomfortable/hurting you, even if it might seem blunt or rude. I have trouble picking up social cues. I will take you seriously and I will never make fun of anyone for opening up to me!
- Please consider using tone indicators, I struggle with inferring the emotions from plain text.

I am new to the Fediverse, so I might accidentally use something in the wrong way. I hope you understand and I'm sorry if it's irritating.

I am not affiliated with Palantir. My banner is supposed to be making fun of them and pinkwashing in general.

@raymaccarthy@mastodon.ie The reason behind choosing a different DNS server is not just logging, it also often has to do with censorship (in Germany there is the CUII, a private organization of ISPs and basically Copyright-Trolls) and poor implementations. Many ISP DNS recursors do not validate DNSSEC, do not speak IPv6 and cannot handle some newer RR's like HTTPS SSHFP, etc...

@raymaccarthy@mastodon.ie IPv6 is pretty common with ISPs nowadays, Google reports ~50% of clients will use and prefer it nowadays: https://google.com/ipv6 - in Germany and USA it is now the dominant protocol. Most large hosting providers will offer IPv6 and most will also enable it by default. With Domain Names this mostly depends on the authoritative nameservers you choose to host your zone (most tend to support IPv6) and whether or not the user adds the AAAA Resource-Record. According to https://dnsthought.nlnetlabs.nl/vis/ almost 83% of resolvers do speak it. DNS-based censorship is also really easy, it is probably the most common form.

@raymaccarthy@mastodon.ie @ax11@mastodon.social Yes, as of now. Adoption really only started back in 2012 and there has been some big progress. In some countries like Germany you can host a game server on IPv6 and everyone can connect. Usually it is businesses, VPNs or people disabling IPv6 due to false information that drag the statistics down. It is likely to change and increase even further. There are also already a dozen IPv6 only cellular/datacenter networks.

@nixCraft@mastodon.social Interesting, but honestly, DNS resolvers without IPv6 or DNSSEC validation should not even end up on the list :P
