Looking forward to jumping back over to Pixelfed development after #FediCon Spam mitigation is my top priority, and the nuclear option is allowing admins to restrict registration to the official mobile apps via App Attestation and device ids that use a central service we operate to prevent spam registration across our ecosystem of instances. SpamHaus and other services are also being considered, SMS verification is too expensive and easy to bypass. #Pixelfed #SpamMitigation

The Direct Messages feature requires a lot of careful consideration to prevent abuse. This is why you will only be able to message accounts that follow you if your account has less than X followers or is younger than 1 year old. Don’t worry if you have less than X followers, but have more than XX cumulative likes across your videos, you will bypass this restriction. Incoming and outgoing messages will be scanned for known spam urls before processing. #loops #directMessages #spamMitigation
