RE: https://mastodon.social/@trevortombe/116850778028287226 "All of this points to why programs that help every province deliver comparable public services matter. #Equalization has real flaws and can be improved in many ways. But the underlying principle that each province should have the resources to provide comparable services and #education benefits the whole country. It especially benefits strong economies like Alberta’s and B.C.’s." #abpoli #cdnpoli

Roughly, there’s ~$800 billion in taxpayer-funded education sitting outside the province that paid for it. With Alberta and B.C. the largest beneficiaries. My latest for @TheHubCanada on the largest financial transfer nobody talks about: https://thehub.ca/2026/07/02/the-biggest-financial-transfer-in-canada-that-nobody-talks-about/ #cdnecon #cdnpoli

As a Canadian in #Alberta, this video about #NewZealand and #Australia hits home in terms of different parts/provinces of #Canada with equalization, in the context of being so dependent and integrated with the US, but also with progressive personal taxation. I am in favour of #equalization. Here I find hearing about it in terms of a remote situation where I have no preference puts it in a more stark and compelling perspective. https://nebula.tv/videos/wendover-new-zealands-australia-problem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBpgTgFF1ek&pp=ygUId2VuZG92ZXI%3D
