“Questa è una sentenza storica. Dopo 10 anni di lotta per la verità arriva finalmente anche la giustizia per Giulio Regeni e arriva soltanto grazie al lavoro straordinario della Procura, alla tenacia della famiglia Regeni e al lavoro dell’avvocata Ballerini”. A rivendicarlo la segretaria del Pd, Elly Schlein, dal tribunale di piazzale Clodio a Roma, dopo la sentenza del processo per il sequestro e l’omicidio di Giulio Regeni.
“Una sentenza che fa giurisprudenza perché condanna tre uomini dell’apparato dei servizi egiziani e li condanna per il sequestro e la tortura di Giulio Regeni. Questo significa che nessuno potrà mai più negare le responsabilità del regime egiziano. Nessuno potrà più negarlo. E di questo bisogna prendere atto e agire di conseguenza”, ha continuato la segretaria dem.
E ancora: “Se si è arrivati a questo risultato ci si è arrivati miracolosamente nonostante gli ostacoli, i depistaggi e tutto quello che il regime egiziano ha fatto per evitare questo processo e per evitare di arrivare a questa sentenza. Questo dà ancora più valore alla sentenza di oggi. Come ha detto l’avvocata Ballerini, è una sentenza importante per tutti i Giulio e le Giulie d’Egitto, cioè per gli oppressi dai regimi di tutto il mondo”, ha concluso Schlein precisando come la sentenzia sia “un faro di speranza, perché non può esistere immunità”.

After 10 years of fighting for the truth, justice has finally arrived for Giulio Regeni, and it arrived thanks only to the extraordinary work of the Prosecutor’s Office, the tenacity of the Regeni family, and the work of lawyer Ballerini.” This was stated by PD Secretary Elly Schlein from the Clodio Square courthouse in Rome, after the verdict of the trial for the kidnapping and murder of Giulio Regeni.
“A verdict that establishes precedent because it condemns three men from the Egyptian security apparatus and condemns them for the kidnapping and torture of Giulio Regeni. This means no one will ever be able to deny the responsibility of the Egyptian regime again. No one can deny it. And we must take this into account and act accordingly,” Schlein continued.
And further: “If we have reached this result, we have done so miraculously despite the obstacles, the misdirections, and everything that the Egyptian regime has done to avoid this trial and to arrive at this verdict. This gives even more value to today’s verdict. As lawyer Ballerini said, it is an important sentence for all the Giulio and Giulies of Egypt – i.e., for those oppressed by regimes around the world,” Schlein concluded, specifying that the sentence is “a beacon of hope because immunity cannot exist.”
