I’d go as far as argue memes may be the most legitimate use of all for imageGen AI. A meme is literally a quick throw away idea that’s meant to agitate. It doesn’t need to be a beautiful piece of art, or have any sophistication. It’s just a quick way to get the message across. And you often want to make it quick in response to some world event. What Iran did with Lego videos also perfectly illustrates just how effective this can be. While western left keeps doing hand wringing over AI use, people living in countries being attacked by western regimes are using this tech to get their message out.

Libs just love doing performative outrage in general. They really see leaving ‘it’s slop’ comments on every thread as they sacred duty, it really makes them feel like they’re making a difference in the world. It’s basically a form of voting which is the only way they know how to participate in a society.

Ok it’s made by Alibaba, you don’t get access to original training data and how does any of that actually matter?

You do realize LLMs are made outside the US as well. I have zero problem with Chinese companies making LLMs that are released in the open and you can even run on your own hardware.

No, you literally are. Also, not sure what data centres have to do with anything since the models we’re talking about can be run locally. I love how you trolls just memorize a handful of talking points that you regurgitate without even trying to fit them into the context.

The difference is that China actually deals with corporations when they act shitty as happened with Alibaba and Jack Ma because China has a dictatorship of the proletariat which creates different material conditions from the dictatorship of capital you have in burgerland. No exceptionalism needed to explain this, just minimal capacity for critical thought that some people lack.

" to expand Alibaba into a finance" is not intrinsically a crime in a country which allows pedo oligarchs to own everything and rule over the working class
Jack Ma was punished because he wanted capitalists to start having control over the economy. Calling that courage reveals what you stand for.
Enjoy living under pedo oligarch regime that fits with your fascist ideology. Your conception of freedom is literal fascism.

Jack Ma paid because he tried to expand Alibaba into a finance and do what western tech bros do. I love how you call Chinese government ‘the regime’ really highlights the quality of your intellect.

Weird how the only reasons you see articulated are ones deeply rooted in liberalism though.
Ultimately, the most performative folks are those judging others without making something better themselves.
I guess we can agree on something. People screeching about AI without actually doing anything productive are the worst.

The term authoritarianism is utterly meaningless because all governments rely on coercion to maintain their authority. The state is fundamentally an instrument that’s used by the ruling class to maintain its dominance. The whole notion that political systems can be neatly categorized into authoritarian or democratic binaries is deeply infantile.
The reality is that every government derives its authority from its monopoly on legal violence. The ability to enforce laws, suppress dissent, and maintain order is derived from control over police, military, and judicial systems. Whether a government is labelled authoritarian or democratic, the fundamental basis of its power lies here. Therefore, the only meaningful questions to ask are which class interests it represents, and to what extent can it be held accountable to them.
What ultimately matters is which class controls the institutions of state violence. In capitalist democracies, the government represent the interests of the economic elites who fund political campaigns, own media outlets, and control key industries. Western public lacks the mechanisms necessary to hold the government to account, and the ruling class is disconnected from the broader population. That’s precisely what’s driving political discontent all across western sphere today.

“A revolution is certainly the most authoritarian thing there is; it is the act whereby one part of the population imposes its will upon the other part by means of rifles, bayonets and cannon — authoritarian means, if such there be at all; and if the victorious party does not want to have fought in vain, it must maintain this rule by means of the terror which its arms inspire in the reactionists. Would the Paris Commune have lasted a single day if it had not made use of this authority of the armed people against the bourgeois? Should we not, on the contrary, reproach it for not having used it freely enough?”

If we look at the bigger picture, the fight is actually between the US and China. The US saw Russia as a weak piece it could take off the board so that it could start plundering the resources the west needs, and surrounding China with proxy states from the west. It was basically spelled out here. And fucking Europe over is also very much a strategic requirement for the US. Since China is now at the centre of the global economy, Europe’s economic interests lie in the east. If the pre 2022 trends continued, then economic needs would also drive politics and Europe would eventually leave American orbit. Since the US can’t offer anything to Europe that would change that, the next best thing is to enact a scorched earth policy and burn Europe to the ground so nobody gets it.

You’re right, it’s not a crime in any country where rich pedos rule over the people and cannot be accountable for their crimes. Nowhere did I say the US is the world, it’s just the model for the rest of the western regimes.
Ah yes, innovation in China is so stifled that China leads in critical technologies across the board itif.org/…/how-china-is-outperforming-the-united-…

While that’s true, a lot of the enterprise still runs on Windows, and that’s where a lot of money is. Also, while you certainly can live without Windows today, vast majority of non-technical people simply aren’t going to want to change. Unless Windows gets so bad that it starts driving people to find alternatives, it’s going to be very hard to displace.
I’m far more optimistic about this happening in China because there is a national effort to become technologically self sufficient, and that means getting off Windows on a national level. And we already see Huawei designing HarmonyOS along with their own hardware, which isn’t tied to any legacy tech.

No problem, reading Parenti really helped me understand the need for socialist societies to become militant in order to defend themselves. Once you realize these societies are developing under an existential threat, it all of a sudden becomes clear that they have to organize in a way that can resist it effectively.

Seems pretty accurate actually. The US has absolutely fucked Europe over since 2022. Europe got cut off from cheap energy that made its economy competitive. It became far more dependent on the US in the process, and the US has been taking advantage of Europe this whole time with tariffs and economic bullying while Europe continues to become ever more dependent on the US. The war on Iran was likely the final nail in Europe’s coffin.
