New case study: At Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, Senior Lecturer Dr Claire Timperley has successfully incorporated active engagement with Wikipedia into her political science course.
In the coursework, students are required to engage with Wikipedia through multiple avenues, from reviewing and critiquing content to eventually contributing to the encyclopedia themselves.

What does a young farmer from Dannevirke have to do with a Wikipedia list of mythical Japanese monsters? 🤔
We're looking forward to finding out during Mike Dickison 's talk at the New Zealand International Science Festival.
Mike will take you on a tour of Wikipedia, lift the lid on its volunteer-run immune system, and show you just how the editable website stays reliable.

Back in May, a group of editors from Aotearoa travelled to Taiwan to meet with Wikimedians from the ESEAP region (East, Southeast Asia and the Pacific) for the 2026 ESEAP Conference.
The event was a great opportunity for our editors to share what they've been working on, hear about and learn from all sorts of projects, and form connections with Wikipedians from our corner of the world — and importantly, from similar timezones!

Not only does the kererū have a Featured Image, it has a Featured Article as well, thanks to the hard work of some dedicated New Zealand editors. Take a look and learn about this beautiful manu 🔗 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kererū

We're looking for a few more New Zealanders to get involved with Commons Across Cultures, a campaign with WikiAcción Perú.
Inspired by the practice of having a pen pal, this project connects volunteers to exchange local knowledge by contributing to Wikimedia Commons.
Throughout August, you'll receive a weekly prompt—tailored to your interests and experience—to add to Wikimedia Commons in collaboration with your digital pen pal 💻📸
