With the deepest sorrow, we share that Elma L. Thomas (Roberts), age 82, passed away on July 14, 2026, in Braga, Portugal.
Elma was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on March 14, 1944.
Throughout her life, Elma touched many lives with her humor, knowledge, sense of adventure, and giving spirit. She had many jobs, including summer camp director and ceramic shop owner. She volunteered as a Camp Fire leader and later worked for the organization. She and her husband devoted much of their time to volunteer work for Shriners Children's Hospital.
Elma was a voracious reader and could beat anyone at Trivial Pursuit (unless she got a sports question). She was also a talented artist, winning awards for her ceramics and decorating circus elephants. She had an especially soft spot for animals, and they knew it. She moved several times in her life, living in 7 states in the US and finally moving to Portugal. She didn't shy away from a move to a new country at 82.
She will be greatly missed and forever remembered. We encourage you to honor Elma's volunteer legacy by donating to Shriners Children's Hospital.
