Not sitting on the armchair to observe this lichen-covered rock in order not to disturb the lichen on the armchair.

The windmill is a museum. Grinding stones sit in a corner, why did I never notice before that these are even more interesting seen sideways? In another corner, a device. I would be surprised if it wasn't a speed regulator.
Either an apartment building with hair salon was deliberately built with religious symbolism, and we've seen this kind of weird before but it was in North America they are different there, or a church was repurposed for apartments and, you know, hair salon.
Because of a discussion with @kbm@mastodonapp.uk , I've learned about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinderdijk where several windmills in a row lift the water several meters up to the next canal (eventually sea level) and next time we must go there.
Nice little room at next hotel (not cheap category but affordable on the days chosen, we picked the order of cities to optimize room rates and that made this one in particular barely more expensive than a cheap-category hotel in the same location would be).
No genever yet, you need to go to specialized alcohol shops for that. This country is very Scandinavian for a non-Scandinavian country, like Estonia, except that Estonia is snubbed by Scandinavian countries whereas this country is snubbing Scandinavia.
I found South African red wine, the most local alcohol that does not need refrigeration. In South Africa I had Amarula, so it's an opportunity to try something different.
Start-up idea: selling herring sandwiches after 16:30 for drunk people. The stand by the station was closing at the same time as the one from Haarlem, I.e., too early. How did no-one notice that this was the perfect food for after a fair dose of Genever?
We have been here before (at the bottom of this windmill which is also the one visible through the window). This is very close to the airport and one of the stations connected directly to it by train, if you've already seen the big city on the other side of the airport.
So last night the previous hotel sent the fast check-out email while I was still there, the first hotel I've used to do this, making it easy to clear any misunderstanding that would have slipped in the charges while I was still there. I had a rule of not making explicit recommendations but I cannot not recommend the Tribe hotel at The Hague. In a previous “hotel talk” I complained about Novotel filling no useful gap between Mercure and Ibis Styles. It's the opposite with Tribe (caveat: every hotel is different and these are generalizations from single samples). Not really more expensive than a Mercure but five-star hotel feel in many little ways (trading some other little things that do not matter so much, at least to me).
Good little hotel room in cheap hotel (not very inexpensive but these are the nights when the Tribe became unaffordable, these tourist-oriented hotels are just more expensive on week-ends). There's a kettle, whereas the previous cheap hotel had only a microwave in the lounge.
Yall im at the train station and there's a city called Gouda we can go to it! Imagine if there was a place called Saint Nectaire (we couldn't go to it it takes two days of walking from the nearest train station)
This hotel only has space for a small gym, but it's nice of it to have one, being in the category where it's not mandatory. There's only room for six pairs of dumbbells so the weights are, in kg, 6, 10, 14, 18, 24, 30. Just enough variety for warming up, and nice going up to 30 when other hotel gyms stop at 10, but if you like series of exactly 8 repetitions with, say, 8 or 21kg, you'll be facing a difficult choice.
I don't want to look like I'm reducing this beautiful country to walkable cities, but:
If you live in a less walkable place, and the big city at home isn't even in the lower half, just go to any walkable place at all and it'll be a wonderful holiday.
Boss, boss, you know how our sausage is too low on saturated fat and salt? I have had an idea, you know what has saturated fat and salt? Cheese, that's what.
(I bought it before translating the label. It tasted disgusting.)
The fish makes one very thirsty so I had this but I didn't understand that it was an on-can thermometer until after having drunk the beer. Similar to Duracell battery charge indicator but for cans.
Imagine you are an insect on an organized trip and you're thinking “I hope the hotel will be good tonight” and when you arrive the insect hotel is this.

Also the risk of rain is high tomorrow but we'd have to start at 3am to be certain to avoid it and then we'd arrive at the cheap hotel before check-in time, so we'll just wear polyester and hope for the best.
The South African wine (probably ALDI own-brand, €3) shows 13.5% ABV on the label with maybe 0.5 degree-equivalent of residual sugar, tastes primarily of blackberry, as these concentrated wines tend to do. Leathery finish. Would recommend.
Just my luck, I sit on the terrace and there's a hole in the parasol right between the sun and me. (The way this hotel work is that you get bar vouchers for the skip-the-clean program, so I have to get started on these vouchers.)
We don't have a fridge anymore. One supermarket next door doesn't have Genever but it has holdable milk for breakfast (very holdable six-pack) and teatime, and also cool beer.
So it starts. The GPX trace says to go right through here(1) which seems like a mistake but there is a sign of forbidden things (meaning some things are allowed) and a stile (2). The unsolicited chatbot said that markings would be blue and yellow so these are probably them (3, white-over-red hiking route markings as used in at least France and Spain).
Overall an good time at the hotel's restaurant, seriously considering getting yet another voucher and having dinner there again. Unusual policies around the "skip the clean" program but to some people, a drink voucher will be more valuable than a few fidelity rewards points. It me i'm some people.
