Hi everyone, I'm trying hard to find a job but with the LLM job application onslaught and the ongoing systemic queerphobia, I'm not even getting rejection emails back. I'm desperate, my partner and I are each others primary carers, our safety net is running out fast, and our support network has dried up as everyone we know is facing their own struggles. I've got US work permissions, but I'm willing and able to contract internationally for anyone who can be flexible. I'm looking for any remote work, tech/IT preferred, but I'll take anything right now. I'm an experienced Linux system administrator, helpdesk support, and software developer. I know Python, Rust, C, Bash, Perl, Ruby, PHP, Go, Docker, and I've been around enough that I can get up to speed with new languages and unfamiliar codebases quickly. As an example of some of my work: I wrote a novel system for using DNS TXT records to create dynamic git remotes (https://git.sr.ht/~absolutely-vivid/doink) I wrote and maintain a simple generic build system that I use as a static site generator (https://git.sr.ht/~absolutely-vivid/utter) I created tool to export github repository issues and pull requests as JSON files or a static website (https://git.sr.ht/~absolutely-vivid/gah) I wrote Rust library for Godot's GCPF compression format (https://git.sr.ht/~absolutely-vivid/rpgcpf) I built a Rust library and command line tool for exporting Pixelorama's pixel art project files as PNGs (https://git.sr.ht/~absolutely-vivid/pxomg) I created a digital instrument using a macbook touchpad as a handpan/drum machine (https://git.sr.ht/~absolutely-vivid/touchpan) I made a minimal finger server (https://git.sr.ht/~absolutely-vivid/fingies) In my open source work on Github, I've contributed to Gleam's website and compiler, Python's typeshed repository, Pipx, and the Python markdown library Marko. You can see my existing work on https://git.sr.ht/~absolutely-vivid and my open source contributions on https://github.com/absolutely-vivid Please reach out to me with any job opportunities you have or know about, any job leads you've heard of, etc. I have a résumé and email address if you need them, just let me know and I can DM or email you things. Boosts are really appreciated :blobcatheart:#FediHire #GetFediHired

@atax1a@infosec.exchange @oxy@social.bsdlab.au i don't know if it's helpful to either of you, but i wrote lookinglass a while ago to automate checking for slop. it checks for the existence of certain files, and also trawls through git history looking for signs in commits https://git.sr.ht/~absolutely-vivid/lookinglass

Hey, I made a thing! It's called doink. Doink gives you dynamic git remotes by using DNS TXT records as pointers.

I wrote a bit about how it works and what it's useful for.

Anyway, do you ever thing about how DNS is a basically a decentralized key-value database?
I think about it a lot :)

@cR0w@infosec.exchange oh that's so awesome! i've always wanted something like that, i didn't realize bash already had it! this feels like a good place to share one of my favorite weird bash history tricks, !$ it expands to the final argument of the last invocation of . so you can run cat file and later run vim !cat$ to edit the file i'll probably use that a lot less now, i mainly use it to correct typos in the command itself, but caret substitution works way better :P

Hi! I'm vivid, an open source dev and public interest computer toucher. [I have a blog](https://absolutely-vivid.srht.site/) but I've been looking for a microblogging space to talk about things that don't need a blog post, and also make likeminded friends in a cool community, and oldbytes seemed like that cool community :)

I probably won't post all that much, mostly just links to blog posts or the occasional thought about computers, and comments on cool things I see here. See you around! :jlobpats:
