Vegan-Inspector

Vegan-Inspector has been finally released! 🥳 Vegan-Inspector is a minimalistic free and open source app, that allows you to see if a product is vegan by its barcode. Get a copy at https://vegan-inspector.app #Vegan #VeganInspector #FOSS #FDroid #Android #App

@hugo@someone.elses.computer @axx@mstdn.fr Yes and no, the data is currently fetched from OpenFoodFacts. Products can have a dedicated vegan status, if that is not set for the current product, the status is tried to be generated from the ingredients, which, however often results in an 'unknown' status. If a specific ingredient can be vegan or not, depending on the manufacturer or manufacturing process, it will be labeled as 'maybe'.

@stilobique@piaf.stilobique.com Vegan-Inspector only focuses on the "vegan or not" aspect, so it has no unnecessary features. And as it is open source, no features will get locked away, you'll always have the ability to add ones you think are missing and self-host the API if you'd like :)

@hugo@someone.elses.computer @axx@mstdn.fr We can sadly also only access the limited publicly available data :/ If you know something, the app doesn't, please consider contributing that information to OpenFoodFacts :)

@wortezimmer@ruhr.social Die App wurde erst frisch ins Repo aufgenommen, dieses ggf. kurz refreshen. Bei mir wird sie aktuell auch nur in der App angezeigt 🫠

@jze@norden.social I found the error. The products were most likely not found in OpenFoodFacts database, the status of which wasn't always parsed correctly. I am now updating the API to send proper responses :)
