@cstross we’re definitely experiencing a signal to noise problem. Lots of fragmentation certainly doesn’t help. The big social media services have all pretty much gone to shit. Are people actually making money from newsletter services like substack? Ad revenue is, well, elusive doesn’t really express how little it generates, and it’s very annoying. Love to see if someone has a magic bullet, but frankly I think it’s probably all luck or down to a good agent with the right contacts.

@mjr@masto.bike @Edent@mastodon.social TBF, I don’t see what most people actually get from the cookie world. Ad revenues are near nothing unless you’re very popular. We used a bit of Plausible code to measure basic stuff, and frankly it was more than enough analytics. And the kicker? Our (modest) social media spend had zero impact. But our (again, modest) traditional marketing, including print, was very effective. Maybe it was different before, but it’s all enshittified to the extreme now.

@cstross@wandering.shop it is, as it also affects CloudNews (OSS reader for Nextcloud News). That app certainly has less dev time than Mail. But I use it less, as well. iOS 26 is not great for me. There should really be a way to downgrade.
