My entire family group chat moved to signal in one night when I asked. Some of them already had it, but everyone being on signal and not just texting made me so happy I made a Lemmy post about it at the time.

I once worked at a webhost and was researching a problem. In so doing, I looked up a relevant error message. I found a forum post made years previously by a person whose username I knew well enough to identify as a co-worker. Turns out he never found a solution, either.

Can't argue that, but I still don't want to live in a robot. I don't want to die at the moment but I don't think I want to live... However long a robot does.

My wife was in the funeral industry for a while and studying mortuary sciences. She says she left because it was too depressing being pressured to upsell grieving families all the time.

Cognitive behavioral therapy, right? ... Right? Back on Reddit, I once saw a lengthy debate about whether this or what you meant should be the default assumption when seeing that acronym. I don't think either participant left satisfied, which I suppose was appropriate.

Once, when I was exploring my delinquent side, I went to a party that involved a lot of drinking. I didn't partake but everyone else did. It happened at a property that detained aggressive dogs. The owners of the property, for whatever reason, weren't home. That's why the party happened. At one point a bunch of us - that is to say, many drunken people and I, the only sober person - went out on the roof and hung out. At one point I stumbled and almost fell from the roof into the pens of the aggressive dogs. The other attendants arrested my fall and thought it was hilarious that I - again, the only sober person - was the only one who (almost) fell, then speculated about what would have happened if I did. I should have gone home, but didn't.

The biggest issue I have with it is that I have Linux on all my personal systems and OSX on my work laptop and sometimes switch rapidly between them. My fingers don't seem to adapt as quickly, though, and I often press the wrong combination between them.

I remember a while ago - when, like in your anecdote, I mostly coded in bash - I had a dream that I found out people were invoking my scripts in a manner that essentially overrode settings that might (or, in my case, might not) have been set at the beginning of the script. This never (AFAIK) happened in waking hours, but I was very offended in the dream.

A fact that I like to share from my personal history: I took four years to graduate from a two year college because I was taking every computer class they offered ... Except that I skipped "intro to Unix" because when was I ever going to use that? My entire career has been largely based on knowing how to use Linux.

Recently I went to the hospital for a surgery. It was scheduled for 0630 and they told me no food or drink after 1800 the previous night. I heeded that. At 1100 they told me they were cancelling the surgery. I said "does this mean I can have some water?" They laughed and brought me 28oz of ginger ale. It was delicious.

Recently I had an operation and was in a semiprivate recovery room with a man who turned out to be 77. I'm 38. While chatting with each other to pass the time, I was on some pretty heavy painkillers. (He refused any pain remediation stronger than Tylenol. He was a veteran and, I suspect based on his reaction to any offerings, had seen friends succumb to addictions.)

Anyway, despite being drugged, I managed not to say the first two things that came to mind:

  • "Wow, you're almost exactly double my age!"
  • "Whoa, that's how old my dad was when he died."

All that to lead up to ... If you have any pictures to share, I'd love to see the creative works of a 98-year-old!

I never do that because there's not much I need enough to commit that much, but also because I'm worried that the next week thirty of them will show up on my doorstep and I'll realize I'm broke.

I'm a man, but I like it when my wife has orgasms. Often I do, too. Sometimes the two coincide and I really like that. I suspect men of old also loved their lovers, though not universally. Hopefully the ladies came as well.

The only thing I'd like to note is, their guide says to use a high quality USB quality. Most times I've seen that, it's been completely irrelevant. With the Graphene installation, the only hard part of the process was finding the USB cable that came with my phone. Once I did, all other obstacles disappeared.

I've never put stickers on any of my equipment, personal or otherwise ... But someone at my work once told me that one could procure plastic shells you can put on Macbooks so you can a. Not damage the device and b. Take your stickers with you when you leave.

I don’t see an issue with it. There are maybe a few things I would say differently, but every IT job I’ve worked has had poorer language in the documentation, even sometimes the ones we distribute to customers.
