UPS monitor/shutdown service
I have messed around with NUT to trigger a graceful shutdown of my home server running Ubuntu Server. I have struggled with setting NUT up on bare metal, but would like a gui anyway. I saw PVE-UPS which looks good, but I think but I think it is meant for Proxmox. Any alternatives, or a spin of PVE-UPS for docker compose anybody know about?

I’m going to press x on that one. What you say is true to an extent, but you would never grab a particularly pointy shield as your only weapon if you had to go on an offensive. Those things make it more effective from a defensive standpoint, but if I had to get into a fight I would choose a knife over any shield you could show me if I could only pick one, especially if I knew my opponent was going to also have an offensive weapon.

You HAVE to try making it with dead animals in it. Basically any kind. I’ve tried it both ways, and It’s SO much better with.

I was hoping to setup a server and clients to shutdown the other Raspberry Pis and such, scattered around the house if the main server senses a power failure.
Also, I had an issue where it insisted on triggering a shutdown the SECOND the UPS triggered, even if it came right back. I might take another swing at it at some point, but I liked the look of that PVE-UPS things.

Cool. What is the file size of the DNS database being quarried with each request anyway? My knee jerk assumption is that it’s like a petabyte, but the longer I think about it, the smaller it gets.

Thanks. Good info. Feel like sharing your conf file to see how it’s formatted in an example that actually works? Might make this my weeks evening project.

It’s so that you can have unique, randomized, rotating passwords for every service you have. Also, they auto fill fields for you, and can save you from spoofed URLs if you’re not paying attention. Highly recommend getting one. Bitwarden is good.

As a gun owner and former small arms instructor, like… I’m happy, but I also feel like I got isekai’ed when I see fellow left sided folks imply that privately owned guns aren’t basically the equivalent of the One Ring. They are simply a tool which bestows the ABILITY to use violence at a distance. What you choose to do with that ability is entirely up to the holder. A sword can be used as a shield as well, but a shield cannot be used as a sword if needed

I never even thought about this before, but what kind of hardware is a root level DNS server like 1.1.1.1 or quad 8 run on? Are they all roughly the same, or do they take different approaches to the load?

The important question is: what to you plan to do with this new knowledge?
