AG Klimatologie - SPACY
This is the Climatology and Biosphere group of Prof. Kira Rehfeld at @unituebingen@xn--baw-joa.social
📈 In SPACY we study #climatevariability, 💚 #sustainablepathways, the #carboncycle, 🌐 #climatemodeling, #isotopes & more!
What are the climate/environmentally friendly food options on Campus Morgenstelle / Tübingen University in the coming week?
Let's take a look!
https://www.my-stuwe.de/mensa/mensa-morgenstelle-tuebingen/
Monday: Lentils. Good for Swabians.
Tuesday: Beans!
Wednesday: Pumpkin AND Lentils.
Thursday: Rice+vegetables. But fried things too (spring rolls!). promising.
Friday: Tofu +... (always good, some plant protein).
Let's see what it will taste like 😋

On this #womeninscience day the journal on Nonlinear Processes in Geophysics published a short interview on my appointment https://blogs.egu.eu/divisions/np/2026/02/11/new-editorial-voices-at-npg/ Researching the 🌍 🌎 🌏 🌐 system with all its intricate 🔗 links and beauty 🌻 🌳 🌴 🐻 🐘 is fun and necessary 💚, It is great that we have solid society journals like NPG!

TED talks are usually about great ideas. Here's an anti-TED talk by our former colleague @unituebingen@xn--baw-joa.social Todd Ehlers on `the worst idea of humanity ever': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrfHLdtFe48 🔥 .
"All models are wrong, but some are useful" is a quote attributed to George Box, a statistician. We can take this as "models do not have to be perfect to do their job". This conversation https://theconversation.com/5-forecasts-early-climate-models-got-right-the-evidence-is-all-around-you-263248 summarizes key contributions of climate models. The climate system is complex -- partly owing to powerful feedbacks such as those from sea-ice (pictured below), but early models already got enough physics to deal with the large-scale change invoked by Greenhouse Gas emissions.
The science has been and is clear. Decarbonization is key to stabilizing the 🌍 climate in the future.
We are advertising the CAPES guest professorship for paleomagnetism and magnetic properties of sediments and rocks. The successful candidate from Brazil will be hosted at the Geo- and Environmental Research Center of Tübingen University, and will be right there as we start the activities of our Cluster of Excellence TERRA on Geo-Biosphere Interactions in a Changing World!
