I'm a Were-Dev. Once a month, I write a large chunk of code. Next time I see it, I have no idea who wrote it or why.

mastodon 4.6.9Register allocation is NP-hard, but so am I. Oddly specific interests include:
- text editors
- terminal graphics
- programming languages and compilers
- init systems and service supervision
- servers, self hosting, networking
- calendar software
- MIDI and synthesis
- QR codes
- 3D printing
- roff

@ubahnverleih Das Ding einmal vom nächsten Verteilerkasten zu meinem Balkon fliegen, schnipp, FritzBox dran, easy 10GBit symmetrisch. Digitalisierung Gamechanger!
@zekjur For being a central component of software development, "unified context diff" files are surprisingly fragile.
-
Tools are supposed to skip "garbage" lines and apply everything that looks like a diff (this is what's happening here).
-
Creating and deleting files is a done via implementation-specific hacks. GNU patch for example cannot create or delete an empty file.
-
The format of file names is standardized, but the definition is lacking (see above), so Git does something else.
etc.

JA DANN MACHT DAS DOCH EINFACH MAL?!?
A code editor / box that displays tabs as a bunch of (empty) spaces is no less broken than one that displays uppercase letters as a bunch of lowercase letters.
Oh boy, the ZOMG #linux KILL SWITCH ?!? clickbait is off the charts.
To summarize, you will be able to bypass certain syscalls until reboot via sysfs shenanigans. This may allow you to instantly mitigate certain vulnerabilities until a patch can be deployed.
Pretty nifty if you ask me, but really not worth panicking over...? Or am I missing something important?

@cadey@pony.social @aphyr@woof.group Shower thought: agentic blog posts are cute and silly, but sooner or later we will have to deal with large scale agentic DMCA takedown requests, and that's going to *suck*

218 dran und gut is.

@cadey@pony.social With the amount of willfully blindfolded slopfondling currently taking place, I wouldn't be too surprised to see someone rewrite a heap buffer overflow RCE in Rust very soon.
My bet would be on the bun people, but the competition is fierce.

@vie@hachyderm.io @jason An LLM power-gluesniffer once told me something along the lines of "LLMs are perfect for code that you don't care about."
I fully agree.
