Such a great example of the C O N S U M E mindset. Does the TV have the features the person wants? Is it the right size or is taking it home all that matters? Is a deal better than the regular list price for a TV that does what they need? Nope, just ‘can I spend money’?

Nobody thinks this is a real image in a Kmart. They just dispute whether the obviously fake image was photoshopped or generated by AI. The butt plug image used is AI but also from the company that sells them: https://craverise.com/products/stainless-steel-hidden-key-box-butt-plug That does not mean that putting the AI image in that context for humorous purposes was done in AI. It is also trivial to strip watermarks so checking for watermarks isn’t reliable. Not all gen AI images are even created with watermarks. It’s like checking an optional note from a parent. We should just call stuff fake if that is what matters. Whether it is gen AI or photoshop is far less important than being fake.

Looks more like shop. It is a combination of a pic from Kmart and an image from this product shopped in. https://craverise.com/products/stainless-steel-hidden-key-box-butt-plug Not slop.

Yeah, let’s just unleash completely unreliable tech to punish people for shit that the city isn’t even willing to fund enforcement of! The station caught up with local real estate broker Ty Williams, who got a courtesy notice for “chimney paint” on a house he owned after one of these cameras came by. He shared a photo of the chimney, and it’s, like, just a regular chimney with some slight discoloration from age. Human review isn’t doing shit to avoid the inherent problem with the system. This is just the new version of red light cameras, which are also unreliable and incentivize punitive fines.

Me not wanting to be labeled as mutilated doesn't invalidate your identification as mutilated. If you consider yourself mutilated, then yes, *you are mutilated*. I am not mutilated because we see our personal experiences differently.

I dislike the 'mutilated' label being applied and take it as an insult because of the negative connotations despite not personally having any downsides. It is like claiming that everyone who is overweight based on BMI is unhealthy despite many athletes having a high BMI due to having a lot of muscle. Plus the person I was responding to said adults who voluntarily chose to get circumcised are mutilated themselves. With that logic ear piercings and voluntarily removing annoying, but not medically probematic moles is mutilation. My point is that you can't just ignore the negative connotations and use a broad brush to describe people while claiming it is technically accurate. No, it should not be done to babies without a medical necessity. That doesn't mean calling everyone who has been circumcised mutilated won't come across as insulting.

As someone who was circumcised for the 'medical hygiene' reasons when it was more popular I am sick and tired of seeing all circumcision lumped together as mutilation. Sure it was probably unnecessary as I am not aware of having a condition that made it necessary in my case, but it was well done and everything has been positive for me. Those that get it done for medical reasons being called mutilation would be offensive. It certainly should end as a practice, especially as a religious practice done by non-medically trained people, but stigmatizing people who had it done as being mutilated is insulting. Edit: your downvotes won't convince me that I am a victim of mutilation because doctors were wrong about the hygiene benefits five decades ago

Which is short sighted as a healthy populace is what lead to the US economic growth in industry prior to it being redefined as being based entirely on stock market gambling vibes. A strong and healthy populace was a big part of the post WWII boom.

I grew up in a plains state where the population was 98% white. There were two things that helped me to see people who look different than me as people, my maternal grandpa farmer who served in WWII and brought home a strong interest in other cultures and PBS. My grandpa didn’t make a big deal of it, but he had one of those giant satellite dishes and loved watching shows from around the world despite not understanding any of the languages. He was perfectly happy with his remote and uneventful life but loved seeing variety. PBS let me see things in other places like documentaries, shows that explored other cultures, and shows like Sesame Street where a diverse group of people juat did normal stuff together and it wasn’t a big deal or anything. Sesame Street was the opposite of my local area and let me see other people as just people. Sadly this did not catch on with a lot of the people around me, who had racist views based on rumors because they personally had not interacted with anyone different than themselves either. Being accepting of others mainly comes from exposure that lets someone see different people as people, and PBS did, and I assume still does, a great job of doing that.

The printing press enhanced the spread of misinformation, as did video, and the internet after it. Hello propaganda! LLMs don't allow for the spread of information like the printing press, video, and the internet because they just vomit stuff out and are completely unreliable because they are wrong even when it isn't intentional.

Communism is abused by controlling the government, as seen in real world large scale governments. They don't get personal wealth, but the same benefits as being wealthy while in power. Socialism is the most practical distribution of power.

The vast majority of the people who live to tell that story had family support from back home an connections before they loved, just like the 'self made millionaires' who started their company in their parents three car garage with hundreds of thousands of dollars invested by family members. Otherwise it is mostly poor people who are getting trafficked if they o ly have the shirts on their backs because the smugglers stole the meager amount they had saved up.

Which is funny because income drops vomparatively in lower cost of living areas, especially if there isn't a lot of options for employment, so it doesn't really address the issue.

The thing is, the remaining percentage of your income is smaller when income goes down and not everything you want to buy goes down. If your income is cut in half but you still have 10% of your income as disposable, the 10% is half what it was in t he city. So if you travel anywhere you have half as much to spend on travel. If your savings is cut in half because it is the same percentsge then you have half as much saved up and are pretty much stuck in lower cost of living areas. Sure, going out on the town is cheaper while living there, but your options are now limited to lower cost areas. It is a possible short term benefit for being stuck long term.

This sentence is hilarious out of context. Is the increased size entirely do to bitrate needed to carry all those fine details or is lack of color depth (?) A big factor as well? Like are there generally fewer shades of grade or is it just that they don’t update fast enough to be clear because of the lower bitrate?
